statement made by Hillary Clinton.

I remember an article from Buzzflash in 2005...and interview with George E. Lowe. He is the author of "It Can Happen Here", a two volume work. He also recently made a very powerful comment in regard to Hillary Clinton's threat of a nuclear umbrella in the middle east.

Here is just a portion of his interview from 2005 at Buzzflash:

George E. Lowe: Can "It" Happen Here? Hasn't "It" Already?

BuzzFlash: You published a two-volume set -- -- It Can Happen Here: A Fascist Christian America -- -- in 2000. You pretty much forecast what has come to happen in the United States since then, although we don't officially have a fascist Christian America.

George E. Lowe: We're heading fast toward it.

BuzzFlash: There's certainly the assertion by everyone from Antonin Scalia to Bill Frist to General Boykin and John Ashcroft that America is a country where God is king.

George E. Lowe: The famous phrase is: "I have no king but Jesus."

BuzzFlash: You were ahead of the curve on this. What made you so motivated to write two volumes, together hundreds of pages, about this topic?

George E. Lowe: The answer is I lived among them. When the Reagan Administration came in, I was Secretary of Education Bell's speech writer. I looked around and who did I see? Gary Bauer as an Assistant Secretary. Bob Billings, one of the founders of the Moral Majority -- -- another Assistant Secretary. Civil rights was handed over to Alan Keyes and Clarence Thomas. They dumped a lot of strange people into the department that had Hal Lindsey's book, The Late, Great Planet Earth, and the Good Shepherd's Yellow Pages. They had little cards that they would post up in the halls saying, "Listen to Jim Bakker and Tammy Faye." They were revolutionaries. And here I am, an American historian, worried about this, because I was fighting the military fascists in the sixties. Here we get Christian fascists, and I just couldn't comprehend it.

Fast forward to 2008 and his comment recently about what Hillary said.

Her comment from Americablog

In the past week, Hillary has dramatically altered US policy regarding the use of nuclear weapons in the Middle East. Specifically, Hillary is saying that she would launch a nuclear strike on Iran if they launched a nuclear strike on Israel. She is also saying that she wants to extend the US nuclear umbrella beyond Israel, and include other US allies in the Middle East (i.e., we would nuke Iran if they nuked these US allies).

Here is Lowe's comment on this in an article at Slate:

Clinton, The 'Nuclear Umbrella' & The NeoCons

Lowe, working as witnessed in the our close brush, 1960-1965, with nuclear incineration during those days, says his Naval "cabal" (O5D) group helped put the "Military Industrial Complex" warning in Ike's Farewell Address speech, says he worked with McCain's father in the Pentagon, and as a speechwriter in the Reagan Administration, thinks Clinton's "nuclear umbrella" idea is INSANE on the same order of madness.

...""Who the HELL is she TALKING to ?", Lowe rhetorically asked me. "It's GOT to be that fellow Doug Coe" (NOTE: Doug Coe is the head of "The Family" a Washington D.C. based fundamentalist group with global influence. See Jeff Sharlet's 2003 Harper's story Jesus Plus Nothing)"

..."Whatever the roots/source of Hillary’s bizzaro ideas/MEMES-- The “NUCLEAR UMBRELLA FOR WESTERN ASIA” trotted out in Wednesday’s Debate-- they were not extemporaneous , but were prepared by her speech writers— based on a MEMO BY SOMEBODY. Curious minds want to know exactly who wrote & who vetted that “NUKE UMBRELLA MEMO” & related talking points?

One more fascinating statement from his Buzzflash interview in 2005:

Incidentally, I was part of a top-secret Navy team that helped create the idea that the military-industrial complex imposed a threat to America. We also worried then about fascist Christian military officers. Our team leader and hero was Admiral John McCain, father of Senator John McCain. I closed Volume Two with the last words that Admiral McCain said to me in 1960: 'We have to fight them (the Air Force and their cabal) even if we'll probably lose, because our future form of government is at stake

This statement stood out: "I have no choice but to call the attention to these people and these forces -- these fascist forces -- that are going to try to destroy our secular democratic Constitutional form of government."

1. Insane. Multiplying the causes that would result in nuclear war...
It is hard to think that she meant what she said, but it is bad enough to have said it. Hardly a step in the right direction, as we already have enough of the world rearming or gearing up to counter *'s little stupidities.

4. K&R Great post. I have often wondered why. why she stays
in despite the mathematical improbability. I thought it was because she was Machiavellian.

But, you made me think - YES - it's more than that. She HAS to win - SOMEONE told her that.

Be afraid.

P.S. O is on C-SPAN 2 as I write. Love him, but wish he'd get new speech. Would love
to hear the conversation when it comes up. "Hey, I think we need a new stump speech......"

7. Wright has been a great issue for the Clinton campaign, hasn't it?
They have truly exploited it....destroying a man's pastor. Ignoring the right wing pastors who preach bombing Iran.
