KANTOR: Straight from DVD RIP/Enhanced Audio/Slowed Video
Source: The War Room - DVD Rip created in June 2007
Video: MPEG4, 640x480, 24.9 FPS
Audio: MP3, 44KHZ, 16 Bit, Stereo (high enough for this purpose)

Video Editing Software: Ulead VideoStudio 11 (Trial)

A 14:09 second clip is taken of the alleged incident and put together in the linked video

This video contains:

1. Original 14:09 sec clip
- unaltered audio

2. Altered 14:09 sec clip
- Audio Amplified at 150%, Noise Removed (2% threshold)
- At 11:14, Audio Amplified to 300%, Noise Removed (2% threshold), Hiss Reduction (20%/60%)

3. Altered 19:03 sec clip
- Same as clip 2, as 75% speed

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vG-ARKHEW7M

You may pick something different up, being that the original audio sample is of a high enough quality (although Youtube brings that down significantly--it sounds much clearer in its entirety prior to upload).

7. dead horse - Hillary did not say it, or was even present
he got caught (perhaps).

Who among us has not said something we have later regretted - or something entirely stupid (perhaps while under the influence . . )

lets move on - probably just a rove tactic anyway - something to drive a wedge a bit deeper in the D-party.

14. that is correct
feel exactly the same way - the difference I see is that he potentially was present when Wright said those things. But I certainly do not think that necessarily means Obama feels similarly.

These are all the most important issues in an economically depressed country at war.

28. That's not the point.
The point is Zellary's hypocrisy in preaching about how you can choose the people you associate with, but not your family, etc. The Clintons have been close with this guy since the '70s - much longer than Obama has been associated with Wright.

And say what you will about the Reverend, he never called anybody "shit."

33. this is a useless disagreement, but
so it is a lenngth-of-acquaintenance thing with you. Hmmmm - interesting approach.

Has the tape been shown to be without-a-doubt accurate? Or are you just assuming?

This sounds like a my-dad-can-beat-up-your-dad kind of argument.

I am done with it.

Because I still can't here anything beyond "those people are shit", or maybe shitting.

3. Posting a video on Youtube with a conclusion attached can get you sued these days.
I have no conclusion. This is just presented as informative, because no one knew what the original clip sounded like.

But, I am suddenly intrigued by the second set of allegations (which most people have written off) after hearing an amplified high quality version.

BUT, perception is influenced by what people expect to hear/see. I can understand where one would, based on syllables and rythm, come up with the second part of the accusations with no intention to lie (which seems to be supported by the body language of the people present, as well as the hushed voice which could be often associated with someone expressing an explicit view not intended for public). But, I am listening for that line....and if I hear a series of inaudible syllables which could potentially match it, I will probably percieve it to be the case. But, there could be 20 other potential matches for that series of sounds/gestures/tones/rythm, etc, that if were originally suggested to me, I may also have heard in its place.

So my conclusion is that I have none. This is just presented to give people without the ability to listen a little closer in case they were still curious. But I do not, under any circumstances, hear "shitting", which is supported by Kantor confirming he said "shit" yesterday.

22. I watched the DVD last night 20 times really loud and I heard "shitty"
"Those people are shitty"

Which is closer to "shitting" than "shit", but judging by his attitude, it seems like he was saying "Those people are shitty".

To the second part, I couldn't hear a thing. Thanks for the analysis and clean-up!

David

23. I just don't get an extra syllable..also seems like a hard "T", indicating an emphasized completion
I was going to load it in a wave studio and see if I could see the extra syllable but Im lazy and bored with this. But, Kantor himself (to my knowledge) did confirm yesterday he said "Those people are shit" (referring to the pollsters according to him).

BUT, if he is telling the truth and 50% of people still hear "shitty" or "shitting", it is a great display of how cognition can effect perception. If anything, this exercise is intriging psychologically being that people's political opinions and preconceptions determine (often) what they are hearing.

Isn't that scary....its not just our interpretation of the real world that can be skewed, but the perception (pre-interpretation) of the real world that can be skewed. The reality is no one is probably 100% in touch with the real world...we are all percieving an environment which can cater to our mind or play on our fears. This fact can also make some question what it really is about a candidate that makes them not like them (ex: do I not like Clinton because I subconsciously not like powerful women, and hence, negatively interpret anything she says no matter how sane and normal? Do some not like Obama even if they agree with him because they subconsciously are afraid of black men?). But regardless, our subconscious and conscious preferences are very much who we are and present (and some may often be genetic). There is no extinguishing them in many cases, but we can become aware and perhaps overcome them.

4. After all is said
we still can't tell exactly what was said - "How would you like to be...." Something, something, anything.

However, if you watch Kantor's mouth during the "shit" comment - he doesn't say "Those people are shit" nor does he say "The people are shitting."

It pretty clear, once you know, that he's saying "those people don't know shit!"

That comment is perfectly in context, it matches his facial movements, and it backs up Kantor's earlier statement that he did say Shit.

As far as the other comment? Who knows. It will take an independent audio specialist to decipher that comment.

5. At 0:26 he does say "white" but he doesn't say "house".
Edited on Sat May-03-08 05:20 AM by Satyagrahi
1. Download the clip.
2. Open the file with QuickTime or a similar program.
3. Select 0:25-0:28 and play it in an endless loop.
4. Crank up the volume and tell me what you can hear.

He does say "white" but he doesn't say "house" as some here have claimed, at least not in the "How would you like to be..." sentence beginning at 0:24. He does say "White Hou..." or "white how" immediately before that at 0:23.

BTW, this may be helpful (works on a Mac, don't know about PCs):

29. I agree.
I hear what you hear, and it's what I've heard all along.

I hear the "White Hou-", which my brain wants to extrapolate to "white out", but there isn't a strong "t" sound.

As for the "How would you like to be..." bit, I know which word ends that sentence, but the DU mods have requested we stop posting it.

9. Here is Kantor's BEST defense
that he had a mid-sentence pause when he said 'excuse me' that shouldn't be interpreted as an end of sentence. In other words, that he was saying 'shitting' but stopped as soon as he uttered the first syllable because he didn't want it spoken loudly onto the tape, so he then tried to whisper it.

"Those people are shit" (pause to try to whisper)
"Those people are shitting in the White House"

I'm an Obama supporter, not a Hillary supporter. Just wanted to give what I think is his best defense, and the one he's too mad right now to make more credibly.

10. Let it die.
Too many uncertainties and as long as there are ANY, we shouldn't pursue this. The fact that so many people have so many interpretations is key. I'd hate to bang the drum on this if it unfairly accuses Kantor. Let's rise above it and fight the legit battles.

13. Transcript:
The official transcript:

GEORGE AND CARVILLE: Indiana, we're ahead.

JACQUELINE: Indiana!

GEORGE: Kentucky.

CARVILLE: Kentucky is five. Michigan is eleven, New York's done.

GEORGE: Holy s---, we're pulling away in Ohio.

CARVILLE: Oklahoma we're up.

GEORGE: Tied in Texas.

CARVILLE: Tied in Texas. It looks good. Now let's just say that. I like the text here.

GEORGE: Can you beep Wendy please? Looks pretty good. Looks pretty good.

MICKEY KANTOR: Look at Indiana. Wait, wait. Look at Indiana. Forty-two, forty. It doesn't matter if we win. Those people are s----ing (oh, excuse me) in the White House. How would you like to be... Look at Texas, go down to Texas.

CARVILLE: Even.

MICKEY: Yeah. Thirty-nine, thirty-nine.

CARVILLE: Perot's kind of holding, isn't he?

GEORGE: He held.

MICKEY: Yeah, he held. His numbers held. I'm sort of surprised, frankly.

30. The interesting thing about that "transcript" is this...
"How would you like to be..."

What's at the end of that sentence? Why was that left out? I can tell you one thing, the word(s) that end that sentence are not "ellipsis" or "dot dot dot" or even "Look at Texas".

Something's missing.

Does it really matter? No, probably not. But I don't enjoy being purposefully misled.

Let's face it--the audio is difficult to discern. Kantor might have said something racist, might not have. He shouldn't have let years go by without disputing it, though.

21. Im merely curious is all...I don't see it as some immense issue
But that is the brand of politics this season unfortunately.

Its just when people were crying fake/doctored, t tugged at me all day to take an educated look at the real source to satisfy my intrest.

It only is important because it could affect a current primary. Otherwise, in the grand scheme, it will be forgotten immediately.
