NJ Democrats now support Obama

Poll shows Obama ahead with N.J. Democrats

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

TRENTON, N.J. - Support among New Jersey Democrats in the presidential race appears to be shifting to Barack Obama.

A Monmouth University/Gannett New Jersey poll finds 45 percent of the Democrats and Democrat-leaning independents surveyed would like to see Obama get the party's nomination compared to 38 percent for Hillary Clinton.

Clinton beat Obama in the state's Democratic primary in February by a 10-point margin.

Nearly 40 percent of the Democrats polled say the continuing battle between the presidential candidates will damage the party's chances in November.

1. Buyer's remorse setting in
I always thought Barack could have taken NJ if it still had its later primary date. He just needed time.

9. Yep......had the absentee ballots not been sent out as early as they were
Obama would have won the state. He won most of Northern California anyways....the true Blue part of the state.

6. I agree completely
Ironically, NJ always used to have its pres primary in June and this year, to have a bigger impact, they moved it to super tuesday with DNC permission. Obama really did not campaign here (expensive TV market prohibited it at the time) and though he made a few appearances, it was very early in the campaign.

Hillary also had the advantage of NY television coverage for the past 8 years in this area and I believe was viewed generally very positively for her role in pressing Bush to support the first responders on 9/11, many of whom were from NJ or had family in NJ.

4. Isn't that primary over?
I thought it was the delegates that counted, not the voters.

Where are those goalposts anyway?

7. "The survey shows Republican John McCain would lose to either Democrat in the Garden State."
Looks like either Democrat is favored to win in the GE.

12. Money spent on PA Ads has helped
Much of New Jersey receives their TV broadcasts from Phila. stations. Obama flooded the Philadelphia market with ads during the PA primary. It apparently has had spilloever benefits into New Jersey, where Obama did little campaigning.
