Calling all DEANIACS!!!!!

I guess I've gone through a waking up period. After petitioning, flyering, writing, calling, blogging, rallying, house-partying and meeting up for most of last year, I must admit that I've been hibernating for nearly 4 months now! (Or shall we say, licking my wounds and getting over my disappointment... )But I know it's time for me to get on board and do my part to secure the presidency for John Kerry.

Not because I love the man. But because I don't want Bush for another 4 years. Anyone who's feeling me on this can feel free to write to me directly @ lauren.foster@analog.com.

What I'd like to do is to attempt to revive some of the energy that we had back in our early Dean days. Remember!?! We sent out flyers, we circulated petitions, we attended rallies, we held house parties, we blogged, we wrote letters, we made phone calls, we sent in donations. We did EVERYTHING WE COULD for Dean... and hard pill as it is to swallow, unless we want the Shrub in office, we now need to do the same for Kerry.

I'd like to begin by attempting to revise the flyers and other paraphenalia we had and make them target Kerry. I'd also like to try to find the folks who came up with multi-language flyers, and see if they are willing to do the same. I know the house parties and meet-ups are still happening. If you haven't been going, PLEASE GO, just to see what's going on.

Right now, supporting Kerry is the only way we'll ever get rid of the Shrub... so please, join me in discussing what we learned over the past year, and what we can do now to get on board with the new direction.

2. Wow. You really HAVE overslept.
Most Deaniacs I know are already supporting Kerry/Edwards and have been doing so for some time.

They're also supporting DFA.

But I admire your enthusiasm! :hi:

7. I'm not.
I dislike John Kerry. Intensely. I'll vote for him, but I won't give money or pound the pavement for him.

Personally, I'm sick and tired of the lesser of two evils.

9. Not intending to restart the flame wars
...but I have serious concerns about Kerry. Always have. I don't like him, and won't like him as President. But he's better than what we have now.

There's always 2008. More primaries and another election.

20. Your feelings for Kerry aside
there are lots of secondary races that could use help. National, state and local races are being run across the country. Find one you like and jump in!

I'm a Deanie and I am working a coordinated campaign effort in my region, working with the county parties to help all our candidates.

22. Yep, the momentum continues on a county level.
This Saturday, we'll have our county meeting/barbecue--it'll be a lot of fun.

It was funny because I got calls tonight from the campaigns of both Dem US Senate candidates...

There is NO QUESTION regarding my favorite Colorado Dem for the U.S. Senate. None at all. No matter what the DNC or DLC has to say about it, MILES won in the primaries.

Salazar is a big name here. I hope he will be governor some day. But we need new minds for the U.S. Senate, and we need them based on what the people of the state understand them to be.

Let's go, people of Colorado!

I had nothing hateful to say about Kerry's supporters. I don't like the man, but will vote for him because he's better than Bush.

It's not like we're going to Nader; you don't have to keep defending your man. Especially in such an aggressive manner.

35. Ummm. you've now crossed the line.
There's a difference between "I despise Kerry"

vs.

"the loser candidate"

There were NINE "losers", including Edwards. So what exactly are you trying to say?????

In fact, don't answer that. Just realize that you have now "attacked" a candidate. Something you previously said you wouldn't do.

I want to like Kerry and support him. YOU are NOT helping.

52. But!!!
The poster who attacked you purposely had their message deleted. I NEVER SAW IT. So it's not a question of me not having a problem with the person who attacked you.

My problem is with the fact that you kept going.

In fact, to be perfectly honest, I don't understand why you started posting here in the first place. Yes, free speech and all that, but in effect, you came to defend a position that no one else was talking about. The topic was started to check in with other previous Dean supporters, and you jumped in all of a sudden out of left field, NOT as a former Dean supporter at all... and when others questioned why you would want to jump in, you got defensive, and now you have actually attacked a candidate that many of us STILL have tremendous respect for.

I'm not about to tell you to leave. That would be pointless! But if you can't see your own culpability in this hornet's nest then you are seriously kidding yourself.

I think it's rude for posters to have pictures that consume an entire screen in every post. It's OK once in a while for emphasis on an issue, but every post gets to be too bothersome to read with these graphics consume space and bandwidth.

So some people don't like Kerry, what is that to you? As long as they aren't talking people into votin for someone else, I don't see why you always feel the need to jump in on every thread and try to convince people that they should like the guy. You can not control other peoples feelings and thinking so stop trying.
Do you really think you are going to force people to like him?
You got what you wanted, Kerry is the candidate. Now leave everyone alone before you turn them off to the guy permanently.

i never felt the need to convince everyone they should like kerry. i didn't even do that on here. i never tried to control other people's feelings.

but why do you feel the need to attack me for saying i like kerry and support him. why do you feel the need to see yourself as a victim being forced to like someone when all i did was say that i like and support kerry.

amazing how you want to be free to complain about the candidate yet you have a problem with me saying i like and support kerry.

and as i said i never did anything to force anyone to like kerry or to support him.

if you don't want to vote for kerry then don't vote for him. but don't expect me to not respond to posts about how i feel. at least i don't attack personally as that other person attacked me just for saying i support and like kerry.

65. To don't have a problem with your support of Kerry, just your desire to
dominate those of us who despise Kerry or just don't like him. This thread was titled "Calling Deaniacs!" not "Calling Kerry supporters!"

and as i said i never did anything to force anyone to like kerry or to support him.
But your repeated slamming of Dean supporters who don't like Kerry with "I like him and that should be good enough for you, blah, blah blah" is a form of forcing your Kerry fanaticsm on us, and to top it off, when you cry "foul!" when we rebuke your mentality, that just re-enforces our dislike of Kerry supporters.

Too bad you don't like it when those of us who despise Kerry admit it. The real world is not a Kerry web site.

who don't like Kerry.

You are the bully and this thread specifically called for Dean supporters, not Kerry supporters.

It really says something about a person who enters a thread that they were not invited to, slams a Dean supporter who says he doesn't like Kerry, and then crys "Foul!" when other Dean supporters rebuke that Kerry supporter.

23. Sadly, I'm with you Pabsungenis....
I was so disappointed when we got Kerry..but I plowed ahead. Now we have Edwards with him and thats cool, I guess.

I've been donating to Kerry each month since he got the nod. I'm stopping now. I've seen some ads and heard some of the things each of the johns have said about certain things and I can't cope with it. A few things they say are similar to the 'ole "bait and switch" tactic and I ain't diggin it. BUT, I WILL VOTE for them just to get the fascist pigs out of our White House.

I too will be saving up and looking forward to another candidate when the time comes. If Kerry/Edwards do very well, I'll dance in the town square naked, if they bomb, I'll be back in here with all of you working on the next election and a panel of candidates.

I saw Dean debate Nader the other day and fell in love with Dean!

Dean, Kucinich or(lastly) Edwards would have been my preference...alas.. We need some inspiration from our candidates, a "movement" like Dean started. We need significant change..which I don't see coming. I don't actually see much difference between the dems and the repubs except for the environmental issues and the budget--not enough IMO.

HOLDING MY NOSE AND VOTING FOR KERRY:hurts:

Don't wait around for a movement to join, start your OWN movement. That is what Dean taught me. Inspiration comes from within, not from without.

18. I dislike John Kerry too, BUT..
Edited on Thu Jul-15-04 08:34 PM by Florida G Man
I dislike John Kerry BUT I will vote hor him too. I am unhappy that he is our pick. Dean would of been a stronger campaigner, and got people excited to vote for someone.

Edwards helps, but John Kerry is SO BORING sometimes, and i think his crap about life at conception is hipocritical.

But I will still vote for anyone that is the DEMOCRAT.

5. Welcome back
As stated above, a lot of Dean folks are already working for Kerry/Edwards.

Have you joined Democracy for America yet? They are keeping former Dean folks very active. If you have not seen it, take a look: http://www.democracyforamerica.com/.

I agree with your message about needed to get rid of Shrub and I am happy to say that just about every 'Deaniac' has decided to do the same. Heck, I even think every Clarkie has even come aboard (Clark fans, that is not an attack, just a lame attempt humor).

So welcome back to action and lets keep the energy up till November and beyond.

6. Hello fellow Dean fan!!
Welcome back.

Like someone posted above, sign up on Kerry's website.

They give you a list of events in your local area. I'm planning to go to two house parties in the coming weeks.

12. Former Deaniac and still a strong admirer of Dean
I have become involved in the Kerry-Edwards campaign, and, find myself
liking and admiring John Kerry beyond belief. He makes me proud in so many ways. He doesn't resort to lying like Bush, he keeps his cool, and in my opinion, he's very inteligent. The more I see him, the
happier it makes me that I was able to make the transition. Edwards is a plus for this ticket. Together they just have so much energy.

:hi:  :hi:  :toast:

24. Thanks for the Link...
I'm embarrassed to say that my husband is annoyed at the thought that I would send any more money to my favored candidates. But I'm trying to support the ones whom I think will make a huge difference.

26. Already there, already doing that!
Our local grassroots group is the Kerry presence in Austin. We have ever-growing Meetups and have raised thousands of dollars with house parties. We've sold several hundred of our T shirts and have a great local website. We've recently become part of our county's coordinated campaign. And we all get along as a team, regardless of which candidate we may have supported six months ago.
