...He used to be very good AND usually had a smile and a joke when he was poking at opponents.

No more. Becoming a Republican has soured Carville's outlook.

29. For just a second think...
What if you DON"T have to wrestle with pigs - get down in the gutter - play "their" game - or become the enemy while trying to beat them? What if it really is possible for Americans to demand more from their political system? To demand that primaries and elections be about issues - that they take less time and money - that they focus on the needs of the people. Just what if we took all these slick, tough, political operatives, K Street lobbyists, and made them extinct? What if we let them clean sewers for a living?

How would that change America?

How would that change your life?

You may now go back to your safe little view of politics as usual - the same old shit on yet a different day.

Me, I'm going to demand more from this democracy.

Did Carville Tip Bush Off to Kerry Strategy (Woodward)

By M.J. Rosenberg - October 7, 2006, 9:11AM
I just came across a troubling incident that Bob Woodward reports in his new book. Very troubling.

On page 344, Woodward describes the doings at the White House in the early morning hours of Wednesday, the day after the '04 election.

Apparently, Kerry had decided not to concede. There were 250,000 outstanding ballots in Ohio.

So Kerry decides to fight. In fact, he considers going to Ohio to camp out with his voters until there is a recount. This is the last thing the White House needs, especially after Florida 2000.

So what happened?

James Carville gets on the phone with his wife, Mary Matalin, who is at the White House with Bush.

"Carville told her he had some inside news. The Kerry campaign was going to challenge the provisional ballots in Ohio -- perhaps up to 250,000 of them. 'I don't agree with it, Carville said. I'm just telling you that's what they're talking about.'

"Matalin went to Cheney to report...You better tell the President Cheney told her."

Matalin does, advising Bush that "somebody in authority needed to get in touch with J. Kenneth Blackwell, the Republican Secretary of State in Ohio who would be in charge of any challenge to the provisional votes." An SOS goes out to Blackwell.

The rest is history.

Does something about this story stink to high heaven!

69. Cold blooded thug also works (read this):
Globalism extends to the American way of campaigning, it seems, and the hubris of the gringo strategists — earnest ex-Clintonistas employed by James Carville’s Greenberg Carville Shrum group — would be hilarious if human lives and a country’s political will weren’t at stake.

It’s a galling and provocative experience to viewers of any political persuasion, and a reminder to the left of how easily idealism can run amok.

The Carville boys were hired by Gonzalo Sanchez de Lozada, a.k.a. ‘‘Goni,’’ a patrician Bolivian businessman who served a rough term as Bolivia’s president in the mid-’90s. Goni’s legacy was an unsuccessful program of ‘‘capitalization’’ (i.e., he welcomed foreign investment and watched foreigners get all the jobs).

By 2002, the time of filming, unemployment is through the roof and rural campesinos are agitating for political representation. Goni is old news and his poll numbers are dismal. Enter Jeremy Rosner, Greenberg Carville Shrum’s point man in Bolivia, an articulate manipulator of mass moods (and a fellow who bears an uncanny resemblance to Seth Meyers of ‘‘Saturday Night Live’’ — reality parodies itself here better than any comic could).

The article he co-wrote with Mark Penn, "The Power of Hillary," was a great work of fiction. He must have been talking about her power among status quo insiders.

50. Nobody can cut through all the bullshit and tell it like it is, quite like the Ragin' Cajun...
God, I love James Carville. If I ever get to meet him, I will be one happy Democrat.

80. I think he embodies pretty much everything that's wrong with the modern Democratic Party
Weird how democrats can be so polar opposite.

Crazy party, this big tent. :)

63. Clinton loses and goes bust. He didn't get into that enough to see where Clinton is.
I'm glad he called it like it is for the Wright incident. Here's a guy running for President and Wright is throwing him under the bus. Carville said Wright is a jerk for that.

88. rather pedestrian grist for the monecker of 'genius' and PW would be horrified by that genuflection
but putting that aside his analogy on of the election to playing 21 was many more times more realistic than his shilling on cable tv and many more times more realistic than the Clinton supporters here who seem only to undestand numbers and polls on those days when Hillary has momentary gained the lead. He said quite clearly that if she doesn't win NC she is over unless she has a landslide win in Indiana. That is overly generous with the math realities but it does take him out of the 'kook' category.

I am sure if the DU Hillary lobby heard that Carville's prognostication on Hillary's chances of nomination approached something like 15% then they would be unlikely to agree.

Timothy Noah dissects pundits like Carville into tiny pieces with a very tightly argued mathematically sound scaple here.

And no I wouldn't describe Noah as a genius either.
