It's May. When is Hillary going to stop talking and propose her gas tax legislation to Congress?
Edited on Sat May-03-08 01:30 PM by sparosnare
She's at it again today; stumping in NC and promoting her ill-devised solution to gas prices. Not one respectable economist or expert on the subject has said it's a good idea; everyone knows it's brazen pandering.

What I want to know is if Hillary thinks it's such a grand idea, when will she stand up in Congress and try to persuade her colleagues to get on board? Does she think they will buy into a plan that will tax oil company revenues to pay for the loss to our highway fund? Maybe she and McCain can co-sponsor the legislation. He hasn't proposed his yet either.

Time's a wastin' Hillary.

1. Hiilary's proposition of a gas tax cessation is just

shameless pandering for votes.

It is transparent and ill advised to jump on McGrump's bandwagon.

28. Oh man, that's funny AND sad
But too true. Gas prices are going through the roof.

The price here in Korea has always been MUCH higher though...around $4.50 a gallon (it's probably higher then that now taking into account changing $$/Won and liters/Gallons).

2. AFAIK, only one member of Congress agrees with her, and that would be McCain.
Pelosi, Hoyer, Murray, and Udall have all come out against this preposterous plan. I'm sure there are more. Here's a story and update:

Clinton Presses on Gas Tax Holiday

By Patrick Healy

Updated KINSTON, N.C. -– Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton’s decision to take on members of Congress over her proposal for a federal gas tax holiday this summer -– “are they with us or against us” –- is tempting fate a bit, as she risks antagonizing uncommitted superdelegates who are members of Congress and who oppose the tax holiday.

snip//

Congressional Democrats say they highly doubt anyone will cave on their opposition to the gas tax simply because of Mrs. Clinton’s rhetoric -– especially given many superdelegates on the Hill who already support Mrs. Clinton are standing their ground.

One of them, Senator Patty Murray of Washington State, said through a spokeswoman that she remained steadfast against a tax holiday. Senator Murray is concerned that the holiday would lead to a loss of revenue for highway infrastructure projects, which depend on the gas tax.

“I also have a major concern that this idea won’t provide real relief to consumers,” Senator Murray said through her spokeswoman, Alex Glass.

6. I hope Murry
Takes all this pandering by Hillary into consideration, and changes her support to Obama.

There are so many things that Hillary has used to try and get votes, and like this one, none of them will be enacted now, or "IF" she becomes president! I think the SD's know this, and to continue to support her would be bad, especially in Murray's case where she is up for re-election this year, and every county in Washington state went for Obama!

22. No. He. Hasn't.
He has indicated that there should be a windfall profits tax. He hasn't introduced a bill yet. And he didn't call for gas tax holiday.

Indeed, what Sanders is proposing is closer to what Obama is suggesting that what HRC is suggesting.

3. Yep, if you propose a tax holiday for the summer it can't wait till the fall.
She knows this stupid plan of hers and McCain's will never fly but she's seeing some bounce from the "under-informed" voters so she'll keep grandstanding on it.

I suppose it's a good thing that she has no real intention of actually following through but it's also extremely cynical and disingenuous of her to lie to so many people.

8. You're probably right...
it's quite a gamble for her if she still believes she can obtain the nomination; if she can't get support from Congress. I think she knows she can't win.

The rest was more along the lines of, "see who is for struggling Americans and who is not."

11. She's thinks you're stupid...
That's the only way to put it.

She has no intention of going to DC to try to enact this harebrained idea. She would be laughed off the podium. It's pandering pure and simple.

23. No she's not running for President,
but she is the leader of the US House of Representatives, part of the legislative branch of government charged with making laws.

Presidents (and candidates) can have policies and ideas, but Congress must pass the laws to implement them.

21. Actually she was talking about next year.
After she wins and gets her wish to obliterate Iran. Gas will be 10 dollars a gallon then all of her supporters will end up being right and we will all save about 35 dollars for the summer drive!

but somehow I don't see that happening. Let her dig her own grave.
