Obamites interrupt Clinton speech, boo NC governor at NC Jefferson-Jackson Day dinner
Edited on Sat May-03-08 03:37 PM by jackson_dem
The "non-cult" strikes again...

Clinton supporters, like the supporters of every other candidate who ran this year on both sides of the aisle, behaved in a civilized manner. The only group from this cycle that approaches Obama supporters are Paul supporters, and they are thankfully limited by their small numbers. Obama preached unity in his speech. Unity? Like the devoted followers of a charismatic personality displayed during Clinton's speech? :eyes:

-snip-

ABC News' Eloise Harper and Sunlen Miller reports: Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., had to endure cheers for Sen. Barack Obama and boos for the North Carolina governor, who has backed her, at the North Carolina Democratic Party's Jefferson-Jackson dinner in Raleigh, N.C., Friday evening -- where both she and Obama spoke.

-snip-

The crowd erupted into a chant for Obama, leaving Clinton speechless for a few seconds while she waited for them to finish. During her speech, Clinton also mentioned Gov. Mike Easley, who has endorsed her candidacy, and she was momentarily rendered speechless while the crowd booed him.

-snip-

Clinton then pointed out that Edwards' wife, Elizabeth, supports her health-care plan.

“I want to thank Elizabeth Edwards for her passion for ending discrimination by the insurance companies and for standing up against John McCain's inadequate and radical health-care plan," she said. "Elizabeth Edwards is a true champion for universal health care.”

31. Well, you know, it's the primaries, and both sides have been rude.
Don't worry -- soon it will be over.

http://www.projo.com/news/content/POLITICAL_SCENE_3_03-03-08_AU96UJ4_v18.2a4e4a3.html

Then when the lights dimmed and the show began, the crowd seemed even more surprised to see Sen. John Kerry and his trademark helmet of hair bound onto the stage.

The Massachusetts senator and presidential near-miss cracked wise about Rhode Island politics, Buddy Cianci’s ability “to cross state lines” again, and his own recent trip to Pakistan, noting that instead of being swift boated, politicians there get “swift goated.”

But his well-received shtick turned serious as the topic moved to tomorrow’s presidential primary, and Kerry trotted out what seemed like a stump speech for his preferred candidate, Barack Obama.

Within minutes, Hillary Clinton supporters in the crowd of 1,500 decided Kerry had gone on a little too long, and isolated boos and chants of “HILL-A-RY” started to well up around the room.

Their chorus soon grew loud enough to drown out Kerry and the senator wasted no time thanking the audience and ducking offstage.

And this crowd LIKED Kerry. But as soon as he started talking about Obama, they got, well, rude. And so it goes with NC.

64. I don't know
I think there are levels of rudeness here.

It wasn't a candidate speaking when the Hillary chants broke out. If Obama had been up there, I'd agree - rude.

Also, it seems like this was a more Hillary-themed event, since Chelsea was there.

that I thought it was rude for the Obama supporters to interrupt Hillary's speech, but I'm all for giving Easley crap! (Nothing to do with Hillary, I just loathe him as our governor).

And it isn't Hillary country anymore. As a matter of fact, I see Hillary suffering a unexpected defeat in Indiana. She, then will have no choice.

Just as rude as the teacher from the Midwest who told us in PA that the very young Obama crowd at a caucus in her state tried to intimidate them by yelling: "show us your tits". The even more disconcerting thing was that this woman is in her sixties. They didn't even respect her age. Disgusting!!!!

76. Free speech
You go to make a speech in front of people sometimes you get booed. If she can't stand the heat maybe she should get out of the kitchen.

77. "There is no grievance that is a fit object of redress by mob law." Abe Lincoln
And a mob deprived Senator Clinton of her free speech.

84. We didn't interrupt Clinton's speech.
When she mentioned Obama, our supporters chanted Obama. The booing for Easley occurred during Easley's speech. There was only a small spattering of it when she mentioned him. Same when Obama mentioned him. He's not real popular right now. Nobody ever forgot his never appearing with Kerry/Edwards when they became the nominees in 04 either. So don't take the writer's take that seriously or at least not understanding more of the situation. By the way, I was there and also, I live in Raleigh (which gives me at least a fair working perspective).
