NC: Early voting for Tuesday primary ends
RALEIGH, N.C. — Voters got their last chance to weigh in early on the state primary during one-stop voting earlier Saturday.

One-stop voting polls throughout the state closed at 1 p.m., but those in line at that time will be able to vote, election officials said.

Extra poll workers staffed each of Wake County’s nine one-stop voting sites. In Wake County, a total of 37,000 people took advantage of one-stop voting. About 5,600 voted on Saturday.

In Durham, 20,231 people participated in one-stop voting.

“We were just surprised with the volume,” said Gary Sims, Deputy Director of the Board of Elections in Wake County.

Statewide 337,685 people had cast ballots at one-stop voting polls and 18,021 absentee ballots had been returned on Friday. Final totals for Saturday were not immediately available.

2. Thanks. (Are we SURE that's not a giant shredder?)
Does it automatically read/scan the ballot? I guess what I'm asking is do they tally the votes for each candidate as they receive the early and absentee ballots, or begin the tally on election day?

3. I guess Indiana uses the "vapor-vote" touch screen, so who knows if the votes
are tallied correctly..

NC? I don't know if they use paper or vapor vote machines..

4. This looks like the machine I fed my ballot into --
had to fill in the ovals next to my choices with a pen.

6. Ha!
I thought the clear bin with the shreds in it was just a showroom model! I was joking about the shredder!

Well, my machine DID look like that - fed my ballot into the slot, there was a counter and it was counted, and I didn't hear any grinding noises!

So I was wondering if, when I fed it in, it would be able to tell right then and there WHO I voted for, and tally that, or if all that is done at a later date.

That's funny! It really DOES look like your pic. Of course my machine didn't have the clear plastic bin, so who knows?

7. My brother's friend did not vote. GRRR!!!
My brother's good friend from home goes to UNC. He wanted to vote for Obama but did not register before the deadline. I called him Thursday night to tell him that he could still vote by voting early, and I sent him the info for his polling place. I called him today to remind him and sent him an IM, but he IMed me a little while ago and said that he had been at the pool all day and not gotten my message, and he forgot about early voting. GRRRR!!!

I guess it's partly my fault for not calling him earlier in the week, giving him more time to early vote. I talked to someone at UNC yesterday who volunteers for Obama and he said they have the on-campus students and students living in apartments nearby covered. My brother's friend lives in a group house off campus, so he might not have been reached. Hopefully most students got the message, but I am a little disheartened.

8. only so much you can do
He had plenty of chances to vote. He didn't. He obviously doesn't care too much about it.
