ProClinton 527 pouring 1.1 million into ad buy for illegal ad in Indiana.
THE AMERICAN LEADERSHIP PROJECT - CLINTON'S CLOSEST FRIENDS JOIN TO FORM AN 'INDEPENDENT 527'

The pro Clinton 527, The American Leadership Project was formed to subvert campaign financing laws and allow those donors who are maxed out to contribute unlimited amounts outside of the campaign. Average size of contributions to the ALP $ 100,000 per person.

527s cannot be candidate driven - they have to be issue driven:

Under federal election laws, political action committees, including ones operated by unions, may contribute a maximum of $5,000 per election to a candidate. But independent groups – called 527s for the IRS code they fall under – have no limits on donations. They may not advocate voting for or against a candidate and may not coordinate their activities with candidates’ campaigns.

MOTHER (HEAD OF CAMPAIGN) AND SON (HEAD OF 527) - BUT FORTUNATELY FOR THE LAW THEY NEVER TALK POLITICS

The APL was formed by Jason Kinney. He is the son of Clinton's state co-chair
http://www.heraldtribune.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080429/APP/804291291
quote

The Obama camp also raised questions about the group's independence, singling out Jason Kinney, an Indiana native and one of the group's organizers who is the son of Vi Simpson, Clinton's state co-chair. The law prohibits outside groups from coordinating their work with political campaigns.

"Since I've started with the American Leadership Project, we have essentially never discussed the campaign," Kinney said of conversations with his mother.

IS THIS AD ABOUT AN ISSUE OR A CANDIDATE?

Here is a link in the ad

You can decide if it is candidate oriented or issue oriented (defeating Obama is not an issue)

THE FEC LIKE THE IRAQI PARLIMENT JUST DOESN'T FEEL LIKE DOING ITS JOB RIGHT NOW - ASK US NEXT YEAR

The reason that they can do this with impunity is that
http://www.bulletpointjournal.com/2008/05/why-obama-complaint-against-american.html

quote

The FEC does not currently have a quorum so they cannot act on any investigation or regulatory matter.
Even if they could the AP reports that "FEC investigations typically take more than a year to resolve."

IF CLINTON IS RAISING 10 MILLION IN ONE DAY WHY DOES SHE NEED A 527 TO FLOOD INDIANA ILLEGALLY?

TPM reports that it is spending hundreds of thousands of dollars in Indiana in a desperate last minute attempt to save Clinton's campaign
http://tpmelectioncentral.talkingpointsmemo.com/2008/05/prohillary_527s_spending_on_an.php

The American Leadership Project -- the 527 put together by big Hillary-backing unions and major donors -- sank another $200,000 today into the ad they're running in Indiana attacking Obama on the economy, ALP spokesperson Jason Kinney just confirmed to me.

That brings the total spent on the ad to $1.1 million, Kinney says.

The initial buy on the ad was $700,000. The group dumped another $220,000 into the buy yesterday, and added the $200,000 more today.

Kinney says today's spending was designed to beef up the ad's rotation in the Indianapolis market.

The massive total expenditure -- by far the group's biggest buy yet -- underscores yet again the extent to which Hillary allies view Indiana as an absolute must-win.

NO LONGER A DOUBLE STANDARD

The question of applying a double standard to Obama has long been obvious in this campaign.

Now it is a question of Obama having to play to a very high standard compared to a campaign that has no standard at all.

but I've purposely limited my time on DU because this race is not good for my health - seriously.

I began a post the other night to ask how Hillary was paying for her huge campaigning momentum she has been building. I ended up getting distracted here at home, and never did make that post.

The thread you mentioned and this thread begins to answer my question somewhat, but still leaves more questions. The Pro Hillary Group does not pay for any of the high costs that a vigorous campaign demands. Hillary has left a trail of unpaid bills. If she is now getting a pass on some things like rentals, food, lodging, then wouldn't that be considered a contribution that needs to be reported?

All - or should I say the majority of Americans are feeling economic crunches in every aspect of their daily lives. Gasoline, groceries, utilities .... It got me to wondering the other day about how Hillary can afford all this. I thought Hillary was financially tapped out, operating in the red. I'm sure she has been receiving small donations, there is no way she has the small donor base that Obama has built.

Considering she had problems paying for her campaigning before she began her tooth and nail surge, how is she paying for this momentum?

Just how does her campaign pay for her entourage to travel factoring in the increase of fuel and food?

Edit: spelling

5. That's rather blatant, seeing the ad...
I wonder if the FEC quorum problems are not somehow engineered to give us a freely manipulated election, with some eventual fines or slaps on the wrist after the desired candidate is installed. I hope too many people don't think this is an effort to support Hillary, as the same group (or the same money) would likely take her down in a second....

Everybody games the system for millions and then after the damage is done they might get hit with a 10 to 50 thousand dollar fine, you would think that subverting the electoral process would bring more of a punishment than it does but the winner makes the rules and if they lose nobody ever cares.

McLame has no legitimate funding base but with Hillary setting the precedent he will be able to similarly flout the campaign finance laws which will be rendered toothless even as a talking point.
This is potentially devastating for the Democratic party.

If you believe that it is an issue ad and not a candidate ad what is the issue?

Just because your the last one on the Clinton ship doesn't mean that you have to be the craziest guy on board.

You can still use your brain to make independent thought. They aren't going to vote you out of the club because you have retained some objectivity.

It is not an ad that advocates for the defeat of a candidate or supports the other candidate. It is simply an issue ad that informs its viewers of Obama's views.

It is entirely legal, and unless you can prove some substantial connection from this 527 group to Hillary other than hearsay, your point is moot.

51. your ignorance is appalling
are you aware that historically it has always been caucuses from the primary to the county to the state level that has been the primary organizing force for political parties to nominate their candidates and only recently have primaries become significant.

Are you also aware that there are no legal requirements for states to have a presidential primary? If a state does not have an election planned in that time period (which covers most rural states) then they have no alternative to their long established caucuses - which many prefer anyway. Primaries for state and other offices if needed are held much later in the year.

Are you also aware that caucuses provide the only way for party members to join in the grassroots of the party to influence the platform of the party?

Are you also aware that there are states like Texas and Washington that do have state organized primaries that are mandated by law but choose not to allocate all of their delegates in them because they consider the caucuses the most effective way to build strength in the party because it brings people into a closer dialogue with the most active people in the party.

And finally caucuses are conducted by law and the 527 cited is arguing against the law.
