So Hillary thinks that the economists who disagree with her gas tax
Edited on Sun May-04-08 09:43 AM by pdxmom
holiday are "elitists" and wrong. Are these the same economists that she wants to form a "commission" regarding the foreclosure crisis?

"Former Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan and other economic experts should determine whether the U.S. government needs to buy up homes to stem the country's housing crisis, Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton will propose on Monday."

http://www.reuters.com/article/vcCandidateFeed1/idUSN2430663920080324

Were these experts elitist when she proposed this? Are these some experts that aren't elitist? Are they only elitist when it comes to gas taxes, but they're not when it comes to foreclosures? Is it even more proof of what a Pander Bear she is? Or have we veered off again into the realm of outright liar who has no clue what she's doing?

Edited to add the following link to TPM with Clinton's comments from this morning:

1. Incompetence, thy name is "Hillary."
You can't get much more incompetent that George W. Bush, but Hillary is sure trying. Damn, the nation doesn't need another chosen vessel.

when she and her husband and others practically anointed him the messiah.

11. She called them elitist on Stephanopoulos' show this morning. The
article was to show that she didn't feel this way 2 months ago.

Here's a link to this morning:

8. Sounds like the same
Old attitude of Bush to me. If they agree with you, there right, if the disagree they are wrong, and the old "your either with us or against us". I for one am tired of that attitude in the leader of this country, and sure as hell don't want to see it in our next president!

9. Did she say "elitists" or elites?
Because the latter sounds even more ridiculous given who's saying it, in that case they may be "elites" relative to normal Americans, but what does that make Ms. Senator/formerfirst lady/sharer of 109 million dollar fortune, compared to THEM. It's even more absurd if this was said in response to why economists don't favor the plan, but she does, as a previous post that I read had mentioned.

10. She has totally lost it.
Plain and simple she is running as a Republican.

She so weak as a candidate that she confuses the "ditto head" votes as a path to the hearts of the extremist right. She does not understand they are using her as a cudgel to bash democrats with. And with many right wing tools she will be tossed aside the second she accomplishes her given task.

Edited on Sun May-04-08 09:47 AM by xchrom
then you can't really disagree with hill's plan -- because that's how she PAYS for the gas tax holiday.

but i can well imagine you purposely misrepresented hill's plan.

15. That's total BS. Since 1988, when the last windfall profits tax was
repealed, the legislation has been brought up over and over. It has never been passed. Do you seriously think that between now and the end of this month, a windfall profits tax will get passed? Do you seriously think Bush would sign that legislation? And I thought the windfall profits tax was going to be used by Hillary on alternative energy resources? So now she's not going to use it that way?

Hillary has proposed a plan that she knows is stupid, won't do what she says it will do, and has no chance of getting through Congress. She has done it solely for the purpose of getting votes, not out of any desire to actually get this done. Where is her legislation? She better get that out there soon, cause she's running out of time.

17. No, she does not. Saying she's going to doesn't mean she can. She
doesn't get to walk into Congress and make that just happen. She knows damn well it won't pass at this time.

Tell me this...if she believes in it so much, where is her legislation?

18. Let's assume she gets the gas tax holiday passed, let's also assume .....
that she manages to tax the "windfall profits", although this part is highly unlikely, but for arguments sake let's say she does it.

1. The tax on the windfall profits will still leave a huge deficit on revenue from a tax at the pump.

2. She already promised to tax the windfall profits with the money going towards research in alternative energy sources. There will not be enough money to do both.

3. There is no guarantee that removing the tax will ease gas prices or eliminate the tax you are paying. Take the tax away from the pump and shifting it to the corporation only causes the corporation to raise their price 18 cents a gallon and doesn't shift where the tax is collected - meaning it's collected from you, the consumer - it just means that the tax you just payed is sent to the government from the corporation and not your local gas station.
