CBS Poll: Obama Surges to 11 Point Lead over McCain, 12 points over Hillary
No better time to come back to DU then this, with a new National poll from CBS news,

Obama 50(+4), Clinton 38(unchanged).

In terms of Obama's handling of the Wright situation, 60% of voters Approve, while 68% of dems do.

52% of voters say Obama's comments on Wright were about right, while half that say its not critical enough

Obama's approval rating jumped since April 30th, back to 44-30, up from 39-34.

Obama 51(+6), McCain 40(-5)

Clinton 53(+5), McCain 41(-2)

Clinton's favorables jumped to 42-37 from 36-42.

McCain's fell from 33-34 to 32-35.

49% of voters think its a bad idea to lift the gas tax and 70 percent think candidates are doing it for politics rather than to help Americans.

If he can continue to show those kinds of numbers, I'll be less concerned he's a disaster for the fall.

47. Respectfully,
how can you be concerned that he'd be a disaster when he's successfully weathered the barrage of crap that has been thrown at him non-stop for the past few weeks. I imagine the Clinton's must have a very agressive oppo research team, and if they haven't been able to dig up anything on him that will stick, then the Republican's won't do any better. They'll simply throw out the same ole crap that he's been dealing with for months now -- patriotism, muslim name, scary black man, Wright, Ayers, Rezko. Only this time it will be old news - and it will have even less an impact.

He has shown that he can weather the storm without going negative (because he was up against a fellow Democrat). But when the Republicans attack, he'll be able to respond much more aggressively because he won't be fighting another Democrat. Plus he'll have a VP candidate who can throw some hard balls (I hope).

I think he's done a great job in proving he can beat the "distractions" without getting into the gutter.

Food for thought.

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/polls/

Realclearpolitics.com collects all the data from the major polling companies, and I don't see any indication anywhere of Obama "tanking". Also, you have to consider that all of the hard blows endured in recent weeks have been Obama's to bear so the fact that he is still maintaining a lead after the pummeling he has endured speaks volumes. I don't think Hillary will be able to withstand any bad news and remain relevant.

59. Tut tut tut. Trust me. Gallup and Ras will soon reflect the same
results. Could be hillary overplayed her hand with the, 'you're either with us or against us' bullshit, ala bushie. :puke:

63. Do you have a crystal ball?
Predicting the future is not a very convincing argument.

why aren't they finding Obama ahead NOW? Because Obama's lead is not a thing of the future, according to the CBS/NYT "poll". It's a thing of the present. Explain the lag you think Gallup and Rasmussen have.

74. CBS/NYT polls have a lousy track record. Polling is not their strong suit.
I'll take Rasmussen, Cook PolitReport, Zogby and Gallup's Tracking (not their polls with CNN though). These polls have the best reliability records in recent years.

The big media polls are usually wrong. I don't know exactly why that is.

84. Bullshit
CBS does national polls. How would you know about their track record? All I see is that they predicted a two point Bush victory in 2004. Seems pretty good to me.

70. Obama is leading her in another poll too! The SD's are not stupid
They see what the media is doing. They know his numbers will dip temporarily just as they did ever other time the media started up on Wright.

Edited on Sun May-04-08 05:49 PM by Carrieyazel
Seriously this poll gave me a good laugh. CBS News. Their reporting is solid, I like their coverage, but their polling/surveys department is a complete joke. Their polls with the NY Times are notoriously wrong. We're talking 10+ points difference between them and a reliable poll.

Ignore.

69. MIght be that the NY Times was embarassed by fact-checkers re: the McCain libel
When they said McCain was cheating on his wife, remember? They may be out for revenge. They hate McCain. I hate McCain, but I'm not supposed to be an unbiased newspaper.

92. McCain is a Terrible Candidate
There is no way McCain is going to win the GE. He is a
terrible candidate - full of contradictions and flip flops.
He appears to be stupid (maybe he is in the beginning stages
of dementia). He looks tired, he's slow and angry. Also,
democrats will be voting in huge amounts in November. I think
either candidate will clean his clock. But my money is on
Obama (or as I call him, Baroma).

They want REAL change and solutions, not worthless gimmicks and pandering. Shame on both Clinton and McCain for insulting the intelligence of voters at such a crucial time! Kudos to Obama for treating us like adults!

that he was closing in Pa. and you all were looking for an upset. WOW! It tis amazing how you all are so damn gullible to a poll by an oranization that even though they endorsed hrc does not mind trying to cut her throat any chance they get, and CBS is the same......all I know for sure is obama is not an honest broker in this campaign and I hope his ass loses.
