Nigeria: Militants May Suspend Attacks After Obama's Plea
Nigeria: Militants May Suspend Attacks After Obama's Plea

The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) has said it is considering a temporary cessation of hostilities in the oil-producing region based on an appeal by United States presidential hopeful, Senator Barack Obama.

"The MEND command is seriously considering a temporary ceasefire appeal by Senator Barack Obama. Obama is someone we respect and hold in high esteem. The period of halting attacks, we hope, when considered, will afford the Nigerian government the opportunity to address the issues with Henry Okah, including improving his living conditions and having access to a bible which he has requested for but was denied," they said.

This man isn't even President yet, and already the citizens of the world are turning to Barack Obama for solutions... Simply amazing.

31. Especially in Africa
Dont get me wrong I think he can do as good if not better than Hillary in Europe, Asia, the Americas, and Oceania but Africa is one of the most troubled regions in the world and the fact as just a candidate he can have this much impact is huge..

68. Which is good as we need to get our NATO allies stonger together to tackle the real issues.
With more respect from other nations our alliance grows stronger which will be a big clue to not mess with us.

And will help us take a strong but diplomatic stand on problems around the world.

8. I like the sound of that yet :) The reality is people learn and listen by example.
And Obama just has a away of communicating something more with words and actions.

The philosophy of inclusion and discussion rather than fear and isolation is important.

We have forgotten more than we know of knowledge of our world and the way it turns sociologically and it is almost always based on how people forget to pass on knowledge through stories.

Obama remembers the stories and lessons of his life and he passes them on to those who will listen.

Great men and women are always those who communicate, not through contrived caricature, but through a life of demonstration and the power of their words and the measure of their truth.

Obama gets it, and instinct in grown by tens of 1000s of years of survival allow many to automatically SEE that.

53. Obama has something that cannot be faked or bought.
Among black people it's called kuntu, mojo, street cred or shizzle. It is the juicy essence of power, that magnetically attractive energy that comes from being centered in your mid-section instead of stuck in the head.

He is aligned, sex, guts, heart and head. Very unusual for a politician. This evokes respect rather than having to demand it by pandering, manipulation or intimidation. Only those who already lost their "kuntu" have to stoop to coercion.

This man will be able to talk to many different nations and groups. The very act of his being present and listening will empower them give them some of that mojo juice flowing through him.

Any low-level street thug can immediately tell when they're in the presence of a wielder of great kuntu power. It's only the head-cases, totally out of touch with their guts, who are too fogged up to recognize this. The white peeps call it charisma. And many are frightened, and therefore dismissive of it.

72. You know, I keep thinking that if he wins the White House in November,
he should tap Kucinich to head a Dept. of Peace, and Kucinich has suggested before. I'm so tired of war, war, war (I know, I sound like Scarlett O'Hara here). If we can have a Dept. of Defense, why CAN'T we have a Dept. of Peace? I don't think that would make us "wimps"; I think it would show the rest of the world that we aren't just about one thing (war), which is what I think the rest of the world DOES think about us right now.

And they are tired of the saber rattling, of the swaggering cowboy talk. Some people still like it, I know. But I believe a lot of other people really hate it, and want something else, like, oh, PEACE!

81. What would a Department of Peace do exactly?
Negotiate? Thats what the State Department is for. Then put Kucinich in charge of the State Department.

Replace the Department of Defense? Then rename it the Department of Peace and put Kucinich in charge (of its dismantling I assume).

88. Great pic...
I have a friend who's currently running to be this year's Official Superman of Smallville, IN (which is, I assume, where the photo was taken...unless there are lots of towns with big plastic Superman statues and I just haven't heard about it) - I just e-mailed him to let him know I was probably going to have to change my vote.

85. This guy is amazing
Not even in the hot seat yet and he inspires others around the world. Obama's a man of peace but still doesn't want to take guns from civilans in a time of crisis. Unlike Hillary who voted to do just that. Maybe she better make up some new flyers that show how she and Obama voted on that.
