What are the normal ratings figures for the two respective shows?

9. Typical or not, many more people saw Obama yesterday at his best.
Edited on Mon May-05-08 10:34 AM by jenmito
Not nearly as many people saw Hillary, which was probably lucky for her since she was NOT at her best.

8. My guess is that MTP regularly trounces ABC.
But by much less than those numbers. I think Steffanpoop lost a lot of credibilty, as did Gigson, in that ABC debate.

12. Yes they did!

I can no longer watch 'World News', since the debate.

Just the sight of those two makes me sick.

Instead, I watch' NBC Nightly News' with Brian Williams.

I'll bet that MTP always has a higher share...

10. I'm just happy for the greater exposure Obama got.
That's what's meaningful to me.

It would take more info to ascertain anything else from these numbers.

11. Yes, in that way, it was a good thing for Obama.
I just don't want people (as they're prone to here) to turn this into an "Obama gets higher ratings than Clinton" thing.

Totally enjoyed MTP though!

15. English, please! What exactly do those numbers mean?
Do you divide the rating by the share? Is there a total of 100 and each station gets a share of that?

19. It's just shares - not complicated.
Start with 100 (all the stations broadcasting at that time). 8% of the people watching at that hour watched "meet the press" while the lower number watched the other show. Many other channels were also on at that time - so that's what all the other people were watching.

20. It also shows an interesting statistic - only 10% of the people watching TV at that hour care about
politics. The other 90% were watching other things. That probably tells us more about the electorate at large than anything else. Don't get me wrong. I'm thrilled folks were watching Obama, but it does tell a wider tale about how fed up people are with politics as usual.

21. I know I will never watch This Week with George S.
ever again, and I have been a weekly viewer of the program for years. I usually watch Meet the Press (except when Carville and Matlin are on it) and I thought that Barack Obama did a great job on Sunday. He really looked and sounded presidential. I'm not surprised that MTP got a lot higher ratings than This Week. I'd love to know how much This Week's ratings have dropped since that ridiculous "debate".

26. That is actually more interesting to me than many of these polls.
Interesting that the MSM has been pushing that people are "tiring" of Obama.

Too bad McCain wasn't on 'Face the Nation' so we could see the lousy ratings he'd be sure to get in this matchup.

28. More Info from TVNewser Mediabistro on the ratings
TVNewser has received more ratings information on the Sunday morning shows. Based on the available household data for Indianapolis, Meet the Press delivered 91,000 homes (8.5 rating/21 share), up 94% versus the prior week. ABC's This Week delivered 14,000 homes (1.3 rating/4 share), down 26% versus the prior week.

The Russert-Obama hour on NBC affiliate WTHR beat the Stephanopoulos-Clinton hour on ABC affiliate WRTV by +550%.

This was the best homes delivery for Meet the Press on WTHR in at least 14 years (Feb. 1994), when Indianapolis became a metered market.

This all makes this line from the NYTimes Saturday story about the Sunday morning face-off very interesting.

Aides said Mrs. Clinton was attracted to his one-hour format and ABC-TV's high ratings in Indiana and North Carolina...

Hope some of this was slapback from the horrid slanted debate George & Charlie conducted in PA!
