The less I read this forum, the more I like both candidates
This forum has become home to innuendo, gossip, rumors, and other dirt about both candidates. It does not reflect who either candidate really is, and does not reflect reality. Among both candidates' millions of supporters, there are no doubt a few crooks, opportunists, and liars. But, if you ignore this forum, and you try to get an overview of the candidates from a variety of websites and news sources, you discover that the overwhelming majority of their supporters support them for reasonable reasons and that both candidates are doing their best to stick to Democratic principles. Obama emphasizes his prudence and Clinton her toughness. It doesn't always make them look as liberal as many of us would like, but they're both liberal enough, and I think most of us know that. I think almost anyone who stays away from this forum for a couple of weeks will support the Democratic nominee, whomever that may be. The Democratic Party is not well served by this forum, but it does provide a place for catharsis, and one wonders what the most angry posters would do if they didn't have a place like this to vent.

1. Gosh, you mean the media doesn't tell the whole truth
I'm shocked, shocked I tell ya. If I depended on the mainstream for my news, I'd be blissfully ignorant about Hillary's lies too.

Take No Prisoners......it's sort of like the Bush/Cheny Mentality morped into some grotesque idea of a Demoractic Party.

6. My dislike for Hillary has nothing to do with DU
Its her actions that I see. I look at what she says and the way she runs her campaign. That is the reason I dont like her, which has nothing to dow with DUers.

11. So true.
Very nice post. I really like them both. But the more time I spend on GD-P, the less I like Obama. I know it is the same crap from the same posters all the time, but it can get quite rabid and unreasonable. I think some of the stuff that comes from this place would make Obama cringe. I just have to remember that he is not like that and he would probably not agree with most of what is said. I have come to the conclusion that there really is nothing of substance posted in this forum that will educate me on the candidates. But I did like your post and wanted to say thank you for being so levelheaded. :hi:

16. Not necessarily, but
people do post things here -- among the campaign talking points -- that bring the claims of both campaign into focus. They expose facts, add historical perspective, and point out things the rest of us had forgotten or never knew.

It's a lot of work wading through some of the crap to get to the good stuff, but the up-side of this is that you're not going to find that focus in many other places -- certainly not from the MSM. It's unfortunate that some people find that effort so taxing and resort to the path of least resistance -- allowing themselves to be spoon-fed by the campaigns and the self-interested MSM.

This is exactly what's wrong with the country. Too many people agreeing to be spoon-fed by the campaigns spin doctors and the media. And this is why places like DU -- for all of its problems -- are so important.

17. This forum is like other message-boards on the internet. This prmary....
...has gone on too long. Internet message boards are showing much more in the way of personal attacks on other posters than I ever remember in any Democratic primary; hell, even more than in the 2000 Florida debacle.

Supporters of both sides have already posted to death their reasons for voting for their candidate, and have already discussed ad nauseum the issues.

So they are just standing there and slugging at each other now.

Anyone that says the primary going on this long is good for the Dems is clearly not in touch with realiy.

We need to get this thing over and soon.

20. Actually primaries used to go on as long
remember Bobby was killed in June, just after winning Ca, and at the time there were other candidates still running as well..

We have become accustomed to "early drop outs"..mostly because campaigns have become incredibly expensive, and most candidates cannot out-raise a well funded "front-runner", and let Iowa & NH results scare them off..

That's why we need regional primaries. I used to think six primaries, run a month apart would be good, but I now think it should be only 3..starting in Feb (Iowa & NH could still go first)..That would wind it up at the end of April, and have the convention in June.. That would give the candidate time to rest up, collect money, and mend fences before Sept & oct.

What we have now is a marathon..15 months so far, and then immediately...a sprint at the end.. That's asking a LOT of a candidate.

19. Isn't that the truth. It's like Jr. High School in here most of the time.
I am always pleasantly surprised when I see either of the candidates sit down for a one on one interview or talk to a small group.

Neither is really how they are portrayed here. In addition, they complement each other very well.

This site neither represents the Democratic party nor does it any service.

Case in point: OP about "Why we despise Hillary Clinton" has risen to the top of the page. Your post will come anywhere near that spot.

happened on DU, not in front of millions of Americans.

Hillary supporters want the left blogosphere to disappear, to go back to the good old days of wingnut websites, RW talk radio and media complicity (when they were able to fool the entire country about Iraq).

Progressive blogs have come a long way since 2004. More facts going viral (yeah, take the bad with the good), could have made Bush a one-term president. More information is good, not bad.
