Do you ever notice some Obama fans go out of their way
to track down and post the most unflattering photos of Hillary Clinton?

Why is this and what does it say?

I just don't notice the same thing happening from Hillary supporters.

Sad.

Is it Barack's fault that he doesn't take a crappy picture?
Or maybe Hillary supporters aren't aware of the miracle of comedy that is frame by frame video capture.

I'm not you. I don't know what standards you have regarding what constitutes a flattering or unflattering photo. You have to present these standards in order to have a logical argument. What we have here is a bunch of people yapping and trying to bite each others' tails with "Is not! Is too! Is not! Is too!"

Your premise is 100% subjective, and you offer no borders to let other people know just what you're talking about. You then further try to tack this onto "Obama supporters" in general - Personally I can't recall ever posting a picture of Clinton here, flattering or unflattering.

You're calling me disingenuous? Really. For wanting to know just what you're talking about?

Meanwhile, the individuals who did the bad act to begin with got all the attention they wanted and more.

66. Who knows...but I'll tell you what it isn't
Edited on Mon May-05-08 04:19 PM by Umbram
It isn't sexism...if that is what you are implying. We DU'ers love Bush-looks-like-an-idiot photos. We love pictures of Chaney with his famous snarl.

Look at the photos used in ANY attack ad. What does the opposing candidate look like? Old, stern, unflattering, tired, haggard, etc.

Now, there are easily 70% more "active" Obama supporters posting in GD:P than Clinton supporters. So, I'd expect to see 70% more of that kind of BS.

Also, honestly, it is easier to make Clinton look less flattering than Obama. Obama has a younger look about him, so he's not going to have as many bad makeup days (I imagine Clinton, Obama, and McSame are all probably wearing makeup whenever they are on national television) and he really can't have a "bad hair day." The only pictures we would get would be those with bad/funny expressions and quite honestly, he has very subdued expressions - so that will be rare.

Honestly, I haven't done any kind of statistical analysis, but if there is a difference, then I'd say Obama supporters must simply have too damn much time on their hands. I'm sure, with your bias, you'll chalk it up to something more sinister, just as with my bias I'll discount it, but I don't think this is a fruitful avenue for some deep study into the dueling psyches of Obama and Clinton supporters.

72. It's not sinister....it's dysfunctional or something,
The Bush/Cheney comparison of photos doesn't work at DU, because they're Republicans.

Like it or not, Hillary is a Democrat.

So I'll answer the question for you.

Obama people go out of their way to post them because they're filled with hate toward her, and they're immature at best.

So no, not sinister. Just obnoxious.

73. Well, we'll agree on part of that.
Obnoxious, ok...it is immature.

Hate? That's a bit strong...but it may motivate some...

Methinks you oversimplify things a bit when you just throw the word 'hate' around lie that.

I could very well decide that Clinton no longer represents the Democratic party and that I will treat her as if she's a Republican. It isn't true (yet...) but if it were...would that mean I hate her?

Shit, I don't even know if I 'hate' republicans. I'm willing to make light of them and disagree with them, but if that's your definition of hate, so be it.

I think if Clinton read this board, she'd probably laugh at half the shit that gets posted. You act as if she'd have a breakdown.

77. I think it's gotten to the point of hate....some of the stuff I've
been reading about her is worse than a lot of stuff I read here about Bush.

And I do know I hate Bush .. although, not as much as Cheney.

The bottom line is I know Obama supporters are irate that Hillary hasn't dropped out.

I see nothing wrong with her staying in.

There will be plenty of time to go after McCain if Obama is the nominee.

Hillary staying in the race has led to a record number of Democratic registrations .. thanks to both Obama and Hillary supporters signing up.

This is democracy at its finest. I think it's great that all of the states are getting a chance to participate.

And of course I don't think Hillary would have a breakdown.

I'm just commenting on the behavior of **some** Obama supporters who are not behaving like fellow Democrats.

That's all.

80. OK
"I'm just commenting on the behavior of **some** Obama supporters who are not behaving like fellow Democrats."

I agree, but that is mutual. Here at DU we have posts calling Obama the "affirmative action candidate" and implying that he smokes crack cocaine while having a homosexual affair.

There are **some** Clinton supporters who are not behaving like fellow Democrats.

I would suggest to you that if there were more Clinton supporters here than Obama supporters you would be finding the rolls were EXACTLY reversed. It ABSOLUTELY doesn't make it right, but it does explain WHY there seems to be an inequality in this unacceptable behavior.

On an unrelated note - I think BOTH sides of supporters have every right to be upset with the behavior of both candidates. While all you see is wonderful democracy, many of us see unacceptable behavior by the respective campaigns. Some feel quite strongly about this and are likely to be more upset (because of bias) at the opposing candidate.

Obama supporters have a right to be upset when Clinton says on television things that she and McSame are the ones with the necessary experience to lead the country.

Clinton supporters have a right to be upset when one of Obama's people call Clinton a "monster" to a reporter.

You may be an "Edwards supporter" but I have only EVER seen you sympathetic to one side here. Everyone has a bias, and that bias makes them more sensitive to some attacks than to others. That is simply a fact. It is fallacious reasoning to assume that DU'ers that are angry with Clinton are hateful while not recognizing that the same sentiment is directed at Obama (just by a proportionately smaller number of individuals). Just look at the "I refuse to vote for **** in the GE" rants. They are being written by BOTH SIDES. There is a lot of anger going both ways, and not all of it is undeserved.

83. The reason I'm only sympathetic to one side is to
try, unsuccessfully I realize, to achieve some balance.

There are more than enough of you to defend Obama.

I realize that both sides are making nasty comments, but of course, the topic of this thread has to do with the unflattering photos -- photos that I only see coming from one side.

And for the record, I've stated that as absolutely far as I know, I would be voting for Obama in the GE.

And aside from the McClurkin incident, which is of personal interest, I don't post negative comments about Obama.

I believe I've been very consistent.

How many Obama supporters say they wouldn't vote for the Democratic nominee if it's Clinton? Lots.

There are a lot of pics of her that are striking. I always comment when a Hillary supporter uses one as their avatar. She's an attractive woman and the bad photos are unfortunate -- like bad photos of anyone are.

121. It's 3 hours later, but I looked at the factcheck.org link you sent.
I had to go out. Thanks for the info, by the way. But I wasn't convinced by factcheck's arguments. Basically it said Obama's skin wasn't darkened, the whole image was darkened. But that does darken his skin. Also, they never addressed the widening of his head, and you can see his head HAS been widened by the pictures factcheck.org put in their article. The first two pics of Obama are widened. Use his left ear as a marker. It's very close to the pics edge. Now look at the 3rd pic. It hasn't been widened. His ear is further from the edge. And to me, the widening is pretty obvious without measuring it.

I realize you probably won't see this because of the time delay. I wanted you to know I'm not looking for an argument, but check out the pics I mentioned. Thanks again.

117. You know the answer to the question
There are those that will go out of their way to post the worst about the candidate they oppose, whether it be a biased article slamming the candidate or their spouse or it be a photo that isn't becoming.

Hillary supporters do it about Obama and Obama supporters do it Hillary. That is just how internet message boards are.

Now you need to be honest since you are demanding it of others. Why do you only attack Obama supporters? Hillary supporters can be and have been just as obnoxious as you say the Obama supporters have been.

So why haven't you chastised the Hillary supporters in the same vein you do the Obama supporters? Why didn't you include comments about the Obama unflattering photos and avatars, etc?

123. No one has chased the hillary folks away.
They choose to leave, just like they choose to use right wing sources to slam Obama, just like they choose to accept the Rovian tactics used by hillary's campaign as "politics as usual" - they get what they give and they are very good at handing out the snarks and the personal attacks and the petty. I wish there was some type of tally board that kept up with the number of flamebaiting threads started by hillary supporters that have had to be locked.

Though it is commendable of you to what to provide the balance, it will never happen because more people at DU support Obama than they do Hillary. You can't create a balance.

As I said earlier, the Hillary folks post unkind images of Obama. His may not be as frequently found because (a) he is more photogenic than Hillary; and, (b) more folks at DU support him than they support Hillary.

Not very many, but there are some. I could post them here but I'm not like that. I think Obama is very good looking and so is Senator Clinton.

137. I'm guilty, and not at all ashamed.
I do it for a few reasons:

  • I just don't like Hillary.
  • Sometimes-not always, but sometimes-juvenile humor is funny, you elitists.
  • I've seen more Obama supporters get treated rudely by Hillary supporters than the reverse. So I don't feel sorry.
  • It's a guilty pleasure seeing the more rabid supporters get indignant and snooty. It's bad of me, but I can't stop!
  • Ultimately, it's a harmless way to blow off some steam. No one gets hurt, and no one lies.

But just to be fair, here's a photo of Hillary that I think shows off her better features:

151. She looks very Presidential there
and very feminine at the same time. It is an appealing combination.

Under another sun, Hillary would be my candidate as well. Unfortunately, I think this campaign brought out the best, and worst, in both Clinton and Obama. From my perspective, when all is weighed, the scale have tipped clearly, and I can't help but to support Obama, with everything I have.

If, at times, all I have is sophomoric humor, then I give it to my candidate. It's not mean spirited, it's just politics.

156. I know I've said this a million of times, but this primary
is democracy at its finest.

Generated a record number of Democratic voters.

Generated interest on both sides.

All of the states -- especially the late month ones -- get to participate in the process.

And there will be plenty of time to go after McCain if Obama ends up the nominee.

The criticisms of each candidate are politics....but I can't agree with you demwing, that the unflattering photos are.

Her appearance .. whether good or bad, should be off limits.

His appearance .. whether good or bad, should be off limits also.

Then came TV, and then cam the Internet.

If you believe that--in these days--anyone can achieve the office without looking the part, you are missing what is going on. Our society is of the superficial. Our economy is built on our desire for the superficial. And our political campaigns are built on superficial sound-bites and photo opportunities.

I know that Obama promotes a new politics, but perhaps I am a poor supporter, and cannot break free from old school politics. Or perhaps I am simply demonstrating the hypocrisy of a system that embraces certain categories of superficialities, and rejects others.

How can Hillary's use of the superficial be acceptable, and mine can not?

139. Personally, I think the ones who do that are the sexists.
There have been quite a few Obama supporters who have spoken out that the pictures are petty low blows. They seem just as appalled as most Hillary supporters. The ones who post those types of pictures really are showing their low maturity level.

142. I don't know from 'say', but it suggests routine sophomoric trendings...

2. suggestive of or resembling the traditional sophomore; intellectually pretentious, overconfident, conceited, etc., but immature: sophomoric questions.

—Related soph·o·mor·i·cal·ly - childish, adolescent, juvenile.
