Hillary Failed to disclose $24 Million of Bill's Income
by FishOutofWater
Mon May 05, 2008 at 07:10:54 PM PDT

Hillary Clinton listed Bill's income for 2004, 2005 and 2006 as "over $1000". This was legal under campaign finance law, but hid a substantial amount of Bill and Hillary's income. It hid approximately 24 million dollars of income.

WASHINGTON — Sen. Hillary Clinton excluded nearly $24 million of her husband's earnings from Senate financial statements from 2004 through 2006, capitalizing on rules that permit senators to limit disclosures of some of their spouses' income.

Moreover, Bill has apparently received more than $11 million from Yucaipa partnership which is invested heavily in Chinese government corporations. The Clinton's trade relationship with China has paid off big time.

Hillary Clinton put off disclosing her tax information until 40 states had voted or caucused. Then she hid $24 million of Bill's income which totaled 51 million dollars for 2004 through 2006.

Bill Buzenberg, the executive director of the Washington-based Center for Public Integrity, said that the disclosures by the Clintons and McCain were ``inadequate.''

There's no other way to sugarcoat it,'' he said. ``It's not transparent. It needs to be because it does potentially involve all kinds of entangling things we don't know.

The Clintons' tax returns show that Bill Clinton earned nearly $51 million from 2004 through 2006. His wife informed the Senate of about $27 million of it, consisting almost entirely of fees from his globe-trotting speaking tours, from which he has fetched as much as $400,000 for a single appearance.

North Carolina has lost thousands and thousands of textile jobs. NAFTA and CAFTA got the blame but most of those jobs were lost to China, not Honduras or Mexico. Bill Clinton supported liberalized trade with China.

In 2004,2005 and 2006 Bill Clinton apparently earned millions from investments in Chinese enterprises...

3. The article quoted is from McClatchy. One of the best news sources.
The writer at DK only offers further commentary and not much of it. Read the McClatchy article here:

10. If you have citations of Michelle Obama dealing with the Chinese government, I'd be interested.
If not... not so much.

And this is an issue close to me, and I do realize that I'm somewhat hypocritical in that I support the election of Democrats who have furthered easing trade in China - in Washington State, it's sadly unavoidable - but when I do have a viable choice, I make that choice.

13. Well, she worked for TREEHOUSE FOODS, an exclusive WAL MART supplier.
And she got a BIG BONUS too...and I'll bet some of that product wound up in ..... CHINA!!!

What's your point?

This is probably as cheesy an attempt to shade the truth as I have seen .... TODAY, maybe.

No wonder discussion is impossible here, when honesty about the full flavor of some stories is in such short supply. Facts are good things.

21. If I recall right, WalMart accounted for around 15% of Treehouse's business. Ergo, not exclusive.
And besides which, which Presidential candidate was on the fucking board of WalMart?

Jesus!!! No wonder discussion is impossible here, when honesty about the full flavor of some stories is in such short supply. Facts are good things.

24. TREEHOUSE would not EXIST if it were not for WALMART.
Yeah--no WONDER discussion is impossible--when people spend all their time talking about the SPOUSES of the candidates.

A few IRONECTOMIES around here, I notice. Which spouse made more dough in ONE year at a Wal-Mart subsidiary than the candidate made in her entire tenure?

Here's some light reading for ya. If it wasn't an ISSUE, why did Michelle RUN AWAY??? If the association with Wal-Mart was so tenuous and vague, why, really, did she quit? This wasn't an arduous job, this was one of those "Show up a few times a year and make an obscene amount of dough" jobs, that the RICH get to have.
http://www.cnbc.com/id/18815916/

The wife of Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama resigned Tuesday from the board of a food supplier for retail giant Wal-Mart Stores, a target of criticism by the Illinois senator...Her position had raised questions because Obama has praised a union-led effort to change working conditions at Wal-Mart.

...One of Barack Obama's chief Democratic rivals, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York, once served on Wal-Mart's board but since has become a critic of its business practices.

If we're going to play the sleazy spouse game, we can talk about that shitty hospital Obama's spouse works at, too--you know, the one that OVERCHARGES the poor and uninsured, to the tune of more than 350% in excess fees and charges, and who duns them, threatening them with legal action if they don't cough up? Yeah, we COULD go there, instead of talking about the actual issues. Of course, when your candidate is perpetually vague, you don't really have any issues to talk about. When your candidate changes his positions on the issues like people change their socks, you don't want to go there. When your candidate sells himself as a Greenie, but is in bed with the nuke power industry and the (cough, choke, asthma) coal lobby, you have to direct your ire elsewhere. When your candidate plays at being anti-war, but gets money hand over fist in OBSCENE amounts over the past decade from the Crown family, of General Dynamics fame (and war is GD's game), AND he continues to fund the war, well, you have to ask yourself, where is this man's heart? But no--you won't do that, because that would cause cognitive dissonance, and cognitive dissonance interferes with the suspension of good judgment. Gotta click those heels together and BELIEVE, now!

:hi:

7. DailyKos lost credibility
when all the Obamakids got mad, stomped their feet, stopped discussing issues and kicked anyone who didn't support St. Obama out of their tree house.

Now that they're an Obama "echo-chamber" where no real discussion of issues takes place, they look like fools.

14. They lost credibility when they started flogging the hoax video and alerting the media.
That, I thought, was their LOWEST point. Guess they had further to go, Limbo Kings that they are!

I used to have a little respect for the level of discourse over there. That's pretty much dissipated.

5. McCain does the same thing with Cindy's money. So does OBAMA. It's legal. What's your point?
What elective office does "Bill Buzenberg" hold?

There IS a way to change that rule, you know. The electorate has to demand it. They haven't, yet.

The breathless "guilty, guilty, GUILTY!" writing is a bit ... goofy. Especially since the POT is calling the kettle who's calling the "clean coal" shovel on this nefarious "rule:"
http://www.thestate.com/nationwire/story/396386.html

Like Clinton, Obama listed his wife Michelle's salary and directors' fees only as "over $1,000," which complies with Senate rules. Obama and his wife, a Chicago lawyer, aren't as wealthy as the Clintons, however, and their finances are less murky.

GOP candidate John McCain's wife, Cindy, is the heiress to a beer distributorship and has owned stock in oil and pharmaceutical companies, but the specifics are elusive. McCain has declined to release his wife's tax returns, saying they keep their finances separately.

Watchdogs say these scenarios not only raise issues about the candidates' openness but that they also point to shortcomings in government ethics requirements.

It's always better to tell the FULL story. It enhances CREDIBILITY, you see.

15. Hey, get a clue--how old are the OBAMAS? I'm guessing they are making WAY more than the
Clintons were making when they were their ages. Even adjusted for inflation. No best selling book income, no fancy house. Hell, the Clintons lived in public housing until they left the White House.

And I'm betting that the Obamas will be making WAY MORE than the Clintons by the time they both hit sixty, too.

But enjoy your apples and your oranges. And those Treehouse Foods, too.

22. Do you think the CLINTONS did either, at Obama's AGE?
Please. You're pathetically reaching for a NON issue. It doesn't help your candidate--it makes you look desperate to fling any nitpicky shit you can find to distract from the fact that Obama has been looking like a goddamned half asleep, perpetually pissed off zombie on the campaign trail. Calling Matt Lauer "TIM" three times in a row didn't help, certainly.

So, to distract from the fact that your candidate looks exhausted and drugged, you fling shit. And make carping remarks about the SPOUSE of the candidate. And insult the person to whom you are directing your snark.

It's the attitude of a loser you are displaying.

But then, you can't seem to debate, so you, instead of sticking to the issues, call people crazy-- "round the bend"-- when your moronic little POINT doesn't stick. But that's par for the course, here, I've found. It's either "Direct personal insult" or "LALALALALA I CAN'T HEEEAR YOU I AM PUTTING YOU ON IGNORE SO THERE!!!" Either optino is schoolyard--and very immature.

Rolling little laughing man, indeed.

I just love your "Obama does it, too --- oops, ok, no he doesn't (at least he doesn't do it now, but he will when he gets to be their age)" rationalization. You've achieved new heights with this one. The credit and the glory is all yours!

11. She did nothing illegal by writing "over $1000." But her margin of error was HUGH!!11!
In her disclosure forms for the U.S. Senate and her presidential campaign, Hillary Clinton...listed the former President’s compensation as “over $1,000” each from...billionaire investor Ronald Burkle and consumer-data executive Vinod Gupta...The Clintons received as much as $15 million from Burkle’s Yucaipa investment firm from 2003 through 2007...Bill Clinton’s earnings from Gupta’s InfoUSA...(were) $400,000 last year alone...

It is not clear why Sen. Clinton low-balled her husband’s compensation from these...sources when she provided precise figures for his many speeches in her disclosure forms. Broad ranges of figures are permitted...but a category as vague as “over $1,000” is not included as a typical option...
