Can someone point to where Clinton has introduced legislation on this Gas Tax Holiday?

Why all this talk and no action?

What are the odds of passing anything like this?

1. I checked her official senate website
there is nothing about the legislation - nothing new in her press releases on this issue.

I'd be curious to see the legislation myself, if it exists - did she write any of the proposed legislation, how many supporters, etc.

2. The standard wheels for getting legislation moving don't seem to be churning.

3. She and Menendez finally introduced a bill (s. 2971) on Friday, but its still not available

And the answer of the odds of it passing (and with the caveat that we have no idea what it specifically provides) are zero.

By way of comparison, McCain introduced his bill (S. 2890) three weeks ago and has nine co-sponsors.(Kyl, Warner, Graham, Lieberman, Burr, Sununu,Chambliss, Martinez, Wicker) Not that it matters, since his bill is DOA also.

9. no, there is a text, its just not available from the GPO yet.
I would imagine that if you contacted Mendendez or Clinton's office they should be able to provide a copy.

If its been assigned a number, there is a bill somewhere.

12. Typically, you can gain access as soon as it is introduced on their website.
Edited on Tue May-06-08 10:30 AM by izzybeans
It's not that hard to upload a PDF. Legislators do it all the time whenever they are pushing legislation they are particularly proud of. Menendez's office announces his introduced legislation with text on the day it is introduced, then they put the text and/or description of the details on his website.

This is not there.

13. Delays in bills getting up on the web aren't that unusual. In this case, however,
given the attention being given to the issue, its a bit odd that no one has gotten a copy to post yet.

10. erm, how can you introduce something that hasn't been written
or put in final form?

The text of S.2971 has not yet been received from GPO
Bills are generally sent to the Library of Congress from the Government Printing Office a day or two after they are introduced on the floor of the House or Senate. Delays can occur when there are a large number of bills to prepare or when a very large bill has to be printed.

How can you get support if you don't circulate it so others can "jump on board"?

14. It has to have been "written" and put "in final form" to be introduced and assigned a number
And the delay in it being available from the GPO is not that unusual. What is odd, however, is that neither Clinton nor Mendendez have otherwise publicized the text given the amount of attention being given to the issue. I find that very unusual.

16. that is what I am getting at
Go look at her official senate website, when last I checked, was silent as to this official proposed piece of legislation. The text, in theory, would be available to be circulated for support, to get folks on board - the text, in practice, should be out there so others can support it or amend it to be able to support it.

Political pandering stripped naked.

Is this how she will "move her agenda forward" as president?

17. It won't work in TN
They have a law that says if something is passed that eliminates the Federal tax, the money goes to the state, sorry.
