Poll: Flap over pastor hurts Obama
Barack Obama's national standing has been significantly damaged by the controversy over his former pastor, a USA TODAY/Gallup Poll finds, raising questions for some voters about the Illinois senator's values, credibility and electability.
The erosion of support among Democrats and independents raises the stakes in Tuesday's Indiana and North Carolina primaries, which represent a chance for Obama to reassert his claim to a Democratic nomination that seems nearly in his grasp. A defeat in Indiana and a close finish in North Carolina, where he's favored, could fuel unease about his ability to win in November. Such results also could help propel Hillary Rodham Clinton's uphill campaign all the way to the Democratic convention in August.

In the USA TODAY survey, taken Thursday through Saturday, Clinton leads Obama among Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents by 7 percentage points, the first time in three months she has been ahead. Two weeks ago, before the controversy over comments by Jeremiah Wright reignited, Obama led by 10 points.

11. Don't give a shit.
It's just plain cowardice to toss Obama aside for the rantings of some pinhead preacher.

Continually pointing out these polls is just plain lazy fearmongering.

That's cool. When she steps down all this bullshit will end.

7. Did you see the latest Gallup tracking poll - O +5
So no, I disagree that there will be any lasting damage. More the issue is beaten to death in the MSM now, more it will help Obama in the GE.

10. What I find interesting about this survey is the fact that
64% of those following the story think that Obama has handled the situation "Very Well" or "Well". Among those not following the story the percentage is 51%. 34% of those following the story think that he handled it "Poorly" or "Very Poorly" while 27% of the respondents who have not been following the story fit this category. So it's roughly a 2 to 1 margin of people who think that he's handling this situation well. I think that this is a big plus. It shows Obama's toughness and ability to deal with a difficult situation.

And by November (when Obama is running as the Democratic candidate) this will be ancient history and noone will care.

15. With 2 months pounding on this, of course it shows, but can be changed back.
Unfortunately, primaries this close to Wright's damage last week, hard to see when.

I'm more concerned about vote suppression: political boss allocation of voting machines in Philly, and purged names in NW IN, Gary area and Obama stronghold. Provisionals may not get counted, or at least in time to change media story.

16. USATomorrow:
Obama, having already erased the pick-ups of delegates Hillary Clinton received with her single-digit win in Pennsylvania, goes further ahead in the delegate count after Tuesday's primaries in North Carolina and Indiana.

Obama has also erased Clinton's lead among superdelegates. It is now a virtual impossibility for Senator Clinton to gain the Democratic Party's nomination. The question now is not "if," but rather "when" Senator Clinton will concede the race.
