Barack Obama and Rick Santorum... the only two politicians to ever refuse an interview with PGN
Edited on Tue May-06-08 02:00 PM by Lirwin2
(Crossposting from the GLBT forum)

Here's Segal, the King of Gay Newspapers:

We don't put ads on our front page, so we didn't lose any money by doing so. Although, no publisher wants a blank space in their paper! Or as we call it, you know, creative white space! We wanted to make it clear from the very start that we had done our research. And I think what is shocking is that the campaign has not been able to refute our facts. It has been 1,522 days since he's spoken to local gay press <...> during a break in the meeting, former publishers and editors were sitting around the table, and half of them were Obama supporters. And we all started discussing the fact that practically every one of them has gone after Obama for an interview — and they've all gotten the runaround!

==snip==

I've been doing this for 31 years. There is nobody in the gay press that has been doing it as long as I have. And PGN has a reputation for doing interviews with politicians — including people like Frank Rizzo! We've interviewed everyone, with the exception of the one who refused: Senator Santorum. Which I find kind of comical. Because I don't want to put Senator Obama on the same level as Santorum! I find that offensive.

1. He's uncomfortable with gay people and gay issues...
...never been on the forefront of any of this. While I dont think he'll be terrible...sort of just there...as to gay issues, I do not understand how some of his supporters see how he is so great on this.

13. I don't think he understands the issues, and that's part of his background..
...because his political base just ain't all that gay, at least not in Chicago.

2. Obama has given several interviews with GLBT outlets.
He also takes time to mention GLBT people and issues in his speeches. That's more than Hillary is willing to do. I think you're confused on who has the gay problem. Here's a hint (it's not Obama).

unless he has some deep seated issues with homophobia.

19. Um...you're talking past each other.
You're using HRC to refer to Human Rights Campaign, I suspect they're reading it as Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Y'all might as well be speaking Martian.

an honest mistake.

4. when will Hillary
mention gay people in Indiana or NC? answer: never

Barrack mentions the need for Gay and Straight to come together in almost every speech, regardless of the audience.

Hillary only mentions gay people in front of gay audiences, like she is ashamed of gay people.

7. like i said, when will she mention gay people
to a non-gay audience. That is what courage is. Its easy to talk pro-gay at gay events, but much more difficult in front of audiences in Indiana and North Carolina that are 90% straight.

15. IMO, he doesn't want to define himself too deeply
He has a rather chameleonlike persona. Strong identification with anything doesn't seem to be his style.

TUCC Style Gay Bashing Prayer Breakfast...

Prayer Breakfast
March 31, 2007 • 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Monument of Faith Church • 2750 West Columbus Ave. • Chicago, Illinois
Guest Speaker: Rev. Sean McMillan, Pastor, Giant Steps Church

Do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived! Fornicators,
idolaters, adulterers, male prostitutes, sodomites, 10thieves, the greedy, drunkards, revilers, robbers—none of
these will inherit the kingdom of God. 11And this is what some of you used to be. But you were washed, you
were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God. —1 Corinthians 6-9–11

I guess the goodly Christians at TUCC feel that nothing goes better with pancakes than telling gays that they're going to burn in Hell.
