Oh brother....Sullivan on Obama...
Andrew Sullivan was praising Obama's speech (www.andrewsullivan.com) but this passage nearly had me choking on my cereal:

"Conservative values, Democratic compassion. In the constant churn and dialectic of American politics, this is a new fusion - and the Dems have found a young, racially diverse, eloquent voice. Can you think of any current Republican with that kind of fresh appeal and smart politics? Only Arnold comes close."

ARNOLD? First of not only DOESN'T arnold come close, not only ISN'T he articulate, but Arnold is a total anomoly in his own party. Believe me, as much as I loathe Schwarzenager, the day a pro-choice, pro-gay politician becomes the fresh face of the republican party, then we've turned a corner and and won. I'm not counting on it though.

1. I think Jack Ryan would be a better comparison to Arnold
I mean they both treat women pretty shabbily. That's not a value I would see from someone like Obama

3. It used to be Powell
until he became Bush-itized. He is now history, and history will not be kind. I hope he agonizes as he watches Obama's star continue to rise. The missing element, Colin, was INTEGRITY.

4. I was visiting on FR last night just to see what the other side's take was
The reaction to Obama was very positive in their negative way. Such things as "Have to stop him now." "Presidential material" "First black President" along with all the reasons that he was bad for America.

I think that is a real good sign!

10. I caught that too
About the most negative thing they would say about him is he was a Democrat, which in their vernacular is pretty bad, but compared to what they said about Ron Reagan and Teresa, I think it was almost a glowing sour-grapes kind of thing.

8. Arnold the Repug
It amazes me how the republican party can go against their "ideals" to support a celebrity to win an election. If Arnold was a Democrat, the repugs would have been up in arms about any of the following: drug use, orgies, sexual harrasment, pro choice, pro gay, foreigner, son of a Nazi, married to a Kennedy, and on and on.

I guess it's not about what you believe in, it's all about winning.

11. I disagree
The fact is, Arnold does have appeal. Maybe not to you, but to large numbers of Californians, including many Democrats. We'll see how long it takes before he wears out his welcome, if he does, but you simply aren't living in the real world if you can't comprehend this point.

Of course, the big difference between Arnold and Barak is that it's hard to imagine today's Republican Party ever nominating him to be president, whereas it's quite easy to imagine Barak on the national ticket for the Democrats.

13. LOL!
That really made me laugh out loud! It's so fresh and eloquent when Ah-nold calls Democrats "girly men"...
