McCain's Mom Tells Us What Obama Will Face in General Election
Here is 95-year-old Roberta McCain with a bit of straight talk that speaks volumes:

Steve Scully: How much support do you think he has among the base of the Republican Party?

Roberta McCain: I don’t think he has any. I don’t know what the base of the Repub—maybe I don’t know enough about it, but I’ve not seen any help whatsoever.

Scully: So can he then go on and become the nominee of this party?

McCain: Yes, I think holding their nose they’re going to have to take him.

Scully: Can you explain?

McCain: Well, everything they’ve done and said. … Now I’m really popping off, but he worked like a dog to get Bush re-elected. …He’s backed Bush in everything except Rumsfeld. Have you heard other senators and congressmen backing Bush over eight years? Find me it—give me a name. I’ve not seen any public recognition of the work that he’s done for the Republican party.

Look at McCain's fundraising as the presumptive nominee compared to Obama with a Party just about evenly split. Look at the turnout differences and the fundraising. Look at the crowds of people who never wanted to vote before, so aren't considered "likely voters" in the polls. And, of course, look at the age gap and how it reflects the enthusiasm gap between voting for tomorrow and voting for yesterday.

The base has no love for McCain. Without the fundies turning out, McCain is McToast. Dress accordingly.

1. Thanks for the campaign commercial, Mrs. McCain
So much for him presenting himself as an alternative to Bush. But--doesn't this about to pimping her in a weird way?

3. I think she's great. Don't you wish you had a feisty mom when you're McCain's age?
Now, McCain's wife is scary... she looks like T-2000 from Terminator 3: The Rise of The Machines.

19. Hey, my mom's her age and more feisty than that!
She doesn't look like an escapee from Madame Tussauds - she looks like the most feisty sweetie you've ever seen!
And she has all her marbles - she supports Obama.

7. Politically I disagree, but I kind of like her
I think her summation of the Republican thing is about right. Of course, she misses the point because it's not what he did for Bush in 2004 that anyone on their side is complaining about. It's the positions he took from roughly 1998-2002 where he either on substance or in appearance took on the Republican party.

That's more unforgivable in their party than it is in ours (but I digress...)

And I like how she said, "I'm really popping off here..."

13. Let me try to explain what will happen to obama. I know you all
remember gore and kerry, well, both were decent men the GOP turned them both into pitiful, lying losers because they failed to fight. And please read the following carefully and especially the answer.

Russert: In 2004, 'independent groups' attacked John Kerry's patriotism his and war record. Kerry refused to fight back, the impressions stuck to him, and he lost the election.Four years later, you have the lapel pin controversy, the crazy preacher, your wife said she was proud of America for the first time, your hand wasn't over your heart when you pledged your allegiance to the flag in Carolina - what do you say to those uncommitted super-delegates who wonder if you're tough enough? How do you plan to counter the inevitable attacks on your patriotism."

Obama: I won't allow it.

I did not like his answer.that was a really bad answer, considering the ugly, bloody war he might be about to face. Can we afford three nice guys in a row? All they had on Kerry was the lie that he didn't earn his medals - and how'd that turn out?

15. You complain Gore/Kerry weren't fighters, but 'I won't allow it' is too wishy-washy for you?
How much more emphatic do you want him to be - 'I'll personally kick the ass of anyone who tries'?
