If he is not serious why even joke about this, they should strip him of his vote.

2. He's asking the candidate to commit to $20m for Latino voter eregistration/education
Edited on Thu May-08-08 12:47 AM by anigbrowl
It's kind of grandstanding, but he's not trying to make anything personally. He is making an election strategy argument.

"Ybarra wants every cent of the $20 million to go toward registering and educating eligible Mexican-American voters, who he calls the key to the white house.

"And I keep asking the question of the DNC, 'why won't you earmark money for these voters?' And their answer is, 'oh, we can't do that' which is a lie," said Ybarra.
<...>

He thinks his own party is crazy for not aggressively pursuing the Mexican-American vote especially with such a large Mexican-American population in the southwest.

"We should kick John McCain's a** in his own hometown," said Ybarra."

10. Do you... like... aaa... not think that the other SD's aren't making
deals for their votes?

This IS politics, after all...

This Ybarra guy just happened to put a high $ price tag on his and publicize it.

12. I'm sure they are, but this guy actually makes the party look bad.
You know, do you really believe that just because we may outlaw torture at one point that somewhere in a secret CIA prison, torture isnt going on anyway? Doensnt mean it's right.

16. I think he wants it to come from the DNC rather than the federal budget
maybe we interpreted the word 'earmark' differently, but remember that's the reporter's word. He's just saying openly what a lot of SDs already say in code - 'What I'm most concerned about is (blah blah blah - spend money)'. I'm also all right with it because it's a reminder that 'working class whites' aren't the only important demographic, and it would be dumb for the Democratic party to let Republicans continue to mine this voter bloc in the GE.

5. I think it's horrible
Edited on Thu May-08-08 12:51 AM by MattP
I agree that they should educate everyone on voting but to come out and infer that you are demanding that someone give you a quid pro quo for your vote is terrible. That's how earmarks and the budget get to be so bloated, if every superdelegate has some great project that needs 20 million how much is that going to be?

9. I disagree
isn't this what politics is? Give and take? Isn't that what the party platform is all about? I think his approach is rather ham-fisted but...

13. He says it a Quid pro Quo and Quid pro quo's suck
He says that quid pro quo's happen all the time, well maybe we should stop borrowing money for favors some time.

14. The only thing Ybarra's done different from other SD's is that he publicized his request
Edited on Thu May-08-08 01:03 AM by housewolf
and that it happens to be a high price ticket.

Don't you think Richardson "got something" in return for his endorsement? Bob Casey? Ed Rendell? In those circles, "support" does not come free. It's just generally kept quiet and it generally appears more as "a favor" or an appointment or a vote on a pet project or a campaign contribution or something.
