3. I read a book about the last Japanese soldier to turn himself in

sometime in the 1960's. I remember he had SEVENTEEN POUNDS of hair on his head.

4. It must have been an old book, because there were a pair of

Japanese soldiers that were still in the field in the Phillipines in '80 - one got sick and died, at which time the other finally turned himself in. He expected to be executed. He was, instead, received home as a hero by his children, who he hadn't seen since they were toddlers, and grandchildren who he never imagined existed.

last night. The book I read was by a guy who surrendered in 1974.
