Pay To Attention To Obama's Voter Registration Drive

08 May 2008 04:32 pm

The Obama campaign calls its "Vote for Change" voter registration drive a mere voter registration drive. Nothing to see here, folks, except for ordinary people helping ordinary people gain the franchise.

But it's more than that. The Vote For Change program will lay the foundation for Obama's general election get-out-the-vote efforts. Obama aides won't say much more, but I gather that the campaign is constructing an incredibly elaborate online interface to allow its more than a million donors and volunteers to directly persuade their neighbors through a variety of media. Names gathered from the voter registration effort will be merged with names gathered through Obama's primary efforts and the names off of the Democratic Party's integrated voter file as well as lists purchased from outside vendors.

On election day, Obama might have more than a million individuals volunteering on his behalf. That should scare the beejeesus out of the McCain campaign and the RNC.

1. The last thing the powers that be want is for We the People to set aside differences and join forces
Can't recall which Robber Baron it was who said he didn't fear the people because on any give day, he could turn half of them against the other half.

I think about that when I see the race baiting crap HRC is engaged in. She, her campaign, they don't want THE PEOPLE to have power. They want to keep power by turning the people against each other. Sad to see that shitting on any good the Clintons have done in the past.

We The People. That sort of vision is SUPPOSED to be what it is all about. Why do so many pols and their various 29%s want to keep dividing WE THE PEOPLE? Because they don't really want democracy in America.

People backing a leader with vision, people joining forces... damn, it gives my old heart some hope.

4. I was there in Los Angeles
It was simply amazing!
At least 400 people were Fired Up and ready to go!

It was extremely well organized. Down to the smallest part.

Enthusiasm.
Volunteers of every color and age and background.

Stars were there and where just fantastic -- Kerry Washington, Jasmine Guy, the cute young lady from Fresh Prince and lots more.

I had to leave after the rally but it demonstrated how Obama's skills as a Community Organizer paid off.
