Idaho Dems miffed at Bill Clinton's comments
Idaho Democrats sounded off Wednesday against former President Bill Clinton and his campaign comments about Gem State politics.

Clinton, while campaigning in Indiana for his wife, Sen. Hillary Clinton, was quoted in national media as saying she would "bag" No Child Left Behind laws.

"Every time I say this, it's a guaranteed applause line," he said. "You can drop me in the middle of Idaho where there's not a Democrat in 200 miles and an elk would applaud me on that."

Idaho Democrats called Clinton's comments an insult. They said the state party is making a comeback - after suffering setbacks during Clinton's two terms in office.

"If Bill Clinton had done for elk in Idaho everything he did for Democrats, we'd have far fewer elk," said Idaho Democratic Party Chairman Keith Roark - an uncommitted superdelegate - Wednesday morning.

1. Democrats help get the Clintons elected. The Clintons help republicans get elected.

4. Same here
Although if I was an elected Obama supporter, I'd go for the same applause line.

But I can't imagine thinking anyone *really* got their feelings hurt by Bill's comment.

5. Man, that crushing defeat in the Idaho Caucuses still really pisses Bill off, eh?
Obama swung through Boise, and sucked up delegates like he was a walking Dyson vacuum. :-)

Why didn't the Clintons contest these states? It's one of the questions political scientists will be asking for decades.

and it possibly speaks to his approval of the dean led effort to build up party infrastructure in these states relative to the clintons/mcAuffile/Rendell. Worst yet, he's on the "uncommitted" list, not really helping your overall cause there bill.

23. Didn't used to be that way, ever hear of Frank Church and Cecil Andrus?
Idaho was a lot easier for Democrats when they actually put money into western states instead of ignoring them.

14. If you are a democrat striving to build the party in so-called "red" areas....
....Bill Clinton's comments are insulting..

Too many Clinton people have derided Howard Dean's 50 state strategy. So it is not only Bill's words--but the attitudes that lie behind them.

18. Are the Clintons purposely trying to destroy their legacies?...
I am pretty sure they are both far more politically savvy than how they have been acting in the last few months.

What is the deal? Seriously, does anybody have any theories? It seems to be purposeful at this point, and I can't figure out why.

Although, as an aside, Mort Sahl said somethng interesting on KO last night. They were talking about something that had to do with what a person's intent really was, when Sahl gave the example of Bill Clinton and his actions on the campaign trail. People may wonder why, if he wants so badly for Hillary to be elected as president, does he keep seriously undermining her attempts to get elected? Sahl then said the kicker: "Ah, but does he REALLY want her to be elected."

My take on the Sahl comments is that we need to look at actions of politicians who act contrary to what would appear their own best interests, depending on their apparent goal, and then think: Do I really know what the politician's goal is?

So I'm questioning now: what is the Clintons' goal? Perhaps they ARE acting in their own best interests but their best interests are based on a different goal than we assume they have for themselves.
