Myth: Everyone thought Clinton was inevitable. Obama shocked the world
Edited on Sat May-10-08 04:35 PM by lcdtelevision
Obama supporters often want to show you how great Obama's coming-from-behind victory was. How unexpected it was, because the media swore Hillary would win it all.

In fact, a panel of some of the most mainstream pundits in the nation was interviewed by Chris Matthews shortly after Obama announced his candidacy:
Kathleen Parker, the top female columnist in the nation and top 5 columnist overall. David Gregory, who some say will one day replace Chris Matthews in MSNBC. and Clarence Page, distinguished African American (pro-Obama) columnist. Also New York Times' White House correspondent Elizabeth Bumiller.

See what they said when asked if they thought Obama had a chance to catch up with Hillary:

MATTHEWS (3/4/07): OK, let me go around the room. Will he, meaning Obama, catch Hillary by Memorial Day in the polls?

KATHLEEN PARKER: I think so. He's going to move fast.

MATTHEWS: David , Democratic primaries—Democratic vote. Will he catch her in that poll, the next poll we take on Memorial Day?

GREGORY: Yeah.

ELISABETH BUMILLER: I think so.

CLARENCE PAGE: So many variables, but they—within shouting distance.

And that's when Obama was a gazillion points behind Hillary.

So Obama has to be congratulated for winning the primaries, but...give us a break with this "inevitability" meme, who is just conventional wisdom.

1. It wasn't a comeback. He has never fallen, so he can't really "come back"

2. True. I changed the term

to "coming from behind" victory. It's what I meant to say.

My main point is the fact that she was not said to be "inevitable" by the mainstream media.

3. How many SDs did Hillary have even before a SINGLE VOTE WAS CAST in the primaries? And Obama?
Get back to me when you have that info. This has been an uphill climb the whole way.

6. Someone should have told the Clinton Campaign
before they ran the tragically flawed the "inevitable" campaign than was supposed to be little more than a coronation.

16. Bill Clinton said publicly well over a year ago
that he told Hillary that if she runs, there was a good chance she wouldn't get the nomination.

17. But it was still her campaign strategy
Now knowing that Bill told her that, I find truly disturbing that her campaign went with it anyways.

7. Here..we'll let hilary speak for herself on whether
Edited on Sat May-10-08 04:49 PM by zidzi
she was inevitable or not. They lost because she was so arrogantly miss inevitable.

The mainstream mediawhores can try and rewrite history to pump up their corporate candidate but it doesn't change why hilary lost.

Maybe you missed 2007, when Hillary spent the year telling everyone who would listen that she was the nominee, that she was inevitable. She kept doing it this year until Obama kicked her butt all over the nation in February.

As recently as last October, Hillary was polling over 40 points in Iowa, with Obama and Edwards each about 20 points.

She blew it, big time. He came from way behind and beat her soundly.

10. Sure.
Of course, by August of 2007, everyone was saying that Obama's campaign was drifting and listless and ultimately dead in the water. By the end of October, Hillary still enjoyed what seemed like an insurmountable lead in the national polls. Obama wasn't attracting even half of her support.

And let's not forget Hillary's own words: "It will be me."

14. this is how I see it...
The old Clinton entourage ended up in the media as democratic pundits, and it was these same people who while whoring for Hillary some how became a democrat consenesus.

But I guess I shouldn't remember things from the recent past if it makes Hillary look bad.
