Why Obama is skipping WV and getting away with it....
http://www.blog.newsweek.com/blogs/stumper/archive/2008/05/09/wva.aspx

"....Appearing on ABC's Nightline back in November 2007, Obama slipped into Bob Dole mode for this slightly overconfident assessment of his electoral chances: "Every place is Barack Obama country once Barack Obama's been there." The Mountain State seems unlikely to confirm his analysis--to put it mildly...."

Obama to wv: I won't win, so you don't matter.

Yet in areas where african americans who vote for bo at 90+% make up more than 40% of the dem voting bloc, so hillary didn't have a chance, she still made an effort. I know most of you hate Sen. Clinton, but at least she visited and spent time in states she knew she didn't have a chance in hell in.

1. From the very same newsweek article cited in the OP
"Better to keep expectations low (much like Clinton did when she skipped Nebraska, Washington and Louisiana in February)."

So it appears that Clinton used the same strategy when it suited her...

27. Sounds as if the author of the newsweek piece stretches truth a bit.
In fact, Obama will spend Monday in WV, so skipping the state is not quite accurate for him either.

The race is over. He is back to 50 state campaigns. And she did not focus on caucus states like Obama did. Thus the reason she is now a loser..

It's a political contest. The states that are obvious wins or obvious losses don't get a lot of attention. This is nothing new, and the Obama campaign has said NOTHING about WV "doesn't matter." In fact what has happened is that the Clinton campaign is the one that took a dump on the voters of WV with their own metrics of saying big blue states with loads of electoral votes are the only ones that matter.

38. How's the weather in CloudCuckooLand?
Here in Michigan, it's overcast and the wind keeps shifting according to where Hillary's shooting off her mouth. When the rules suited her plans, she 'bigfooted' the DNC and helped make sure Michigan voters didn't get a dime in campaign money or a minute of her time. Now she's whining. But NOT about fucking over the voters and our state economy!! She's whining about HER OWN problems - whining about putting Humpty Dumpty together after she's fed on the omelet.

That will take you to the nightline transcript, if you scroll all the way to the bottom, under more coverage - you can click on WATCH: Obama Country.

Once you do, you will understand how specious a thread you have started.

make her get down in the mud and roll in it like the Clintons are doing...

So what purpose does it serve for Bill Clinton to barnstorm a state like West Virginia and tell rural voters that Obama and his "elitist political/media cabal allies" Bill: "Hillary is in this race because of people like you and places like this and no matter what they say," Clinton said. "And no matter how much fun they make of your support of her and the fact that working people all over America have stuck with her, she thinks you're as smart as they are. She thinks you've got as much right to have your say as anybody else. are mocking Appalachia?

http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2008/05/bill-clintons-m.html

Ginning up the resentments and the class divide (and maybe other divisions). ... His message to these voters: Obama and the media are laughing at you and think you're stupid!!!

52. Obama knows he's got the nomination and he knows Hillary
is favored to win in West Virginia, Kentucky and Puerto Rico. He could rain on her parade and put millions and millions of dollars into the campaign there and steal some of her glory, but he isn't. He wants her to go out on a high note and, on the other hand, sees no need to spend valuable campaign resources better used against McCain.

is losing this campaign and her mind.
I think he is trying to be nice and let her have an easy win so she can end on a high note. Hillary supporters might want to be thankful that he is allowing her to have a state without a fight.

Oh and by the way he may not be their but the "O" Soldiers sure as hell are!!

Some folks expect Obama to lose by 43% points. If he puts on a few commercials - which he is doing - and goes in there the last 2 or 3 days of the campaign and tries to cut the lead to 20 or less, it will be seen as some sort of "victory" because he will have cut her lead in half.. Politics.

edited for spelling :-)
