Why the hell is everyone making SUCH a big deal over a blowout in West Virginia?
Edited on Sun May-11-08 08:52 AM by yourguide
I've heard a lot of supporters on this board and the media making SUCH a huge deal over the margin that HRC is expected to win in WV. I don't get it. Obama has had blowout upon blowout in many states yet suddenly a Clinton blowout in WV wields some sort of mythical power over you all. Even the Clinton campaign seems to be touting this state as yet another reason to continue to fight in a battle that she has already lost.

The stats are:

Idaho (+63 Obama)
Obama: 80%, HRC: 17%

Hawaii (+52 Obama)
Obama: 76%, HRC: 24%

DC (+51 Obama)
Obama: 74%, HRC: 24%

Alaska (+49 Obama)
Obama: 74%, HRC: 25%

Kansas (+48 Obama)
Obama: 74%, HRC: 26%

Washinton (+37 Obama)
Obama: 68%, HRC: 31%

Georgia (+35 Obama)
Obama: 66%, HRC: 31%

Colorado (+35 Obama)
Obama: 67%, HRC: 32%

Minnesota (+34 Obama)
Obama: 66%, HRC: 32%

Illinois (+32 Obama)
Obama: 65%, HRC: 33%

Virginia (+29 Obama)
Obama: 64%, HRC: 35%

South Carolina (+28 Obama)
Obama: 55%, HRC: 27%, Edwards: 18%

North Dakota (+24 Obama)
Obama: 61%, HRC: 37%

Mississippi (+24 Obama)
Obama: 61%, HRC: 37%

Wyoming (+23 Obama)
Obama: 61%, HRC: 38%

Maryland (+23 Obama)
Obama: 60%, HRC: 37%

Louisiana (+21 Obama)
Obama: 57%, HRC: 36%

Vermont (+20 Obama)
Obama: 59%, HRC: 39%

The states that HRC has won by 20% or more?

Arkansas (+43 HRC)
HRC: 70%, Obama: 27%

Oklahoma (+24 HRC)
HRC: 55%, Obama: 31%, Edwards 10%

In the words of Kenny Rogers:

You gotta know when to hold em
Know when to fold em
Know when to walk away
And know when to run

It's time for her to bow out, a WV and Kentucky blow out mean nothing. The stats are there. This is why he's ahead in delegates, overwhelming support in many states.

4. 3/4s of Hillary's losses have been by 16 points or more
I heard this stat right before the IN/NC primaries, so change it to 15 points or more and the percentage increases. When Hillary loses, she loses BIG! 16 points is like 2 landslides in one.

7. One of Hillary's biggest mistakes
was not telling her campaign that she didn't want to lose any state by 15 or more points. Her big state strategy would have worked then. However, once you start losing by multiple landslides, small states become medium-sized states and medium-sized states become large states. 29 points in VA? 18 points in WI? Unbelievable.

There will be a million threads on her win.

Timmy will be on in NY in a 1/2 hour. Dying to see how McAuliffe spins it.

14. I have wondered the same thing
Many of the bash Hillary threads don't help Obama at all.

If Hillary wins by a large margin in West Virginia, as expected, Obama supporters should be gracious because Obama will be our nominee no matter what happens in West Virginia.

If we play our cards right, Obama has a chance of carrying West Virginia in the fall.

11. The media is in the business of selling interesting stories, either by covering or inflating them
Edited on Sun May-11-08 09:06 AM by 4themind
At a point journalistic reality/common sense set in and they declared the race to be all but over, but hillary then refused to bow out. SHe's basically giving them another reason to keep the campaign news coverage going/keep interest and ratings up, so why jump off the money train now, is probably what they are thinking.:puffpiece:

16. It's a 72-point margin of victory that Hillary needs to make WV count
Edited on Sun May-11-08 09:27 AM by rocknation
Anything less than 86% of the vote won't help her close the pledged delegate gap. And she'll have get that same 86% in the other five remaining contests, too. Obama needs no more than 37% of WV to make her life harder.

23. actually he only needs 17% to make it a draw
And THATS assuming they SPLIT the rest of the supers. YIKES, that is some tragic math for Hillary. And 17% just insures he doesnt LOSE any ground.

This one---> http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x5915739

and I assure you, I am not afraid, nor am I a closet Hillary supporter, just google my name.

My main point is, even when you are running out the clock, you still run the last few plays in a deliberate manner. You dont want to get overconfident and/or fumble.

Let's keep working as if Obama is tied, close this thing out as strong as we can, and then crush McSame! That is my only agenda here.

Edited on Sun May-11-08 09:24 AM by sparosnare
McAuliffe did his best spin of the situation on MTP this morning, declaring that with wins in WV, KY and PR; millions of people will vote for Hillary, therefore showing why she should be the nominee. It's amazing how he can say that stuff knowing it's all crap. He's also pushing for the bylaws committee meeting to be decisive for Hillary's nomination.
