Bleeding Staff ~ Next stage of the Funeral Dirge
It hasn't been reported yet but I fully expect in the next couple days we will hear about Clinton's campaign bleeding staff at a maddenig rate. Most of the people on the staff aren't like Penn, Ickes, or Garin who can afford to miss a few paychecks. They are people sent into areas to organize. With the funds drying up alot of politians cut the payments to their staff to pay for more TV ad time. They can survive doing this for 2 weeks maybe 4 if there is hope of a win however if funds don't come back in people will start leaving. The people are generally highly educated and may have put aside a job offer or two to go out on the campaign trail and make history. Right now is a good time to be reconnecting with those job offers or looking at possibly being hired by the winning team in some capacity. Staff are also political junkies so they know the odds. Not all will leave but a significant enough amount to make a dent in her organizing power in later primaries.

Hillary had offices in every county in PA most of which with a paid campaign staffer organizing. Probably in every county in IN and NC as well. Being able to keep that going in OR, KY, SD, MT, and PR is going to be extremely difficult. Not to mention paying for the traveling expenses in these areas. Face it she doesn't do well in Urban areas so the staff is required to drive long distance in far flung counties to cover ground. With gas nearing 3.75 a gallon that in itself is expensive.

If she had grassroots she could throw volunteers into that mess however...she doesn't. I expect her to do what she expects in WV because it was only a week after the knockout blow but KY and OR are going to be organizational nightmares for her. South Dakota and Montana will even be worse.

3. And How Much Did That Cost?
Pennsylvania isn't the cheapest place to stay for an extended period of time. Six weeks before a primary, when its usually more like 2-3 weeks except for advance staff.

In any event, staffers know the math. They also know that the plug can be pulled anytime any day. So people start leaving to join other campaign staffs or see if Obama is hiring. It's probably even more true with support staff like secretaries who really need the money and probably don't have a lot of reserves to cover them until the next job.

Book deals are also get them while the subject is hot. The sooner the book, the more likely is it to sell, so literary agents will be getting calls too.
