1. I wouldn't worry about it.
Once WV learns a little bit more about Obama in the coming months, they'll figure out that this guy's better than a crazy old bat that keeps yelling "GET OFF MY LAWN"

What's to stop them from believing an equally untrue GOP smear about Hillary (Hillary a socialist, lesbian, Communist, etc. )?

9. hmmm -- maybe it's about nationalism, not racism?
Josh Fry, a 24-year-old ambulance driver from Williamson, insisted he was not racist but said he would feel more comfortable with Mr McCain, the 71-year-old Vietnam war hero, in the White House. “I want someone who is a full-blooded American as president,” he said.

10. “I want someone who is a full-blooded American as president,” he said.
“I heard that Obama is a Muslim and his wife’s an atheist,” said Mr Simpson, drawing on a cigarette outside the fire station in Williamson, a coalmining town of 3,400 people surrounded by lush wooded hillsides.

Hillary could, of course, do the right thing and condemn such misstatements unequivocally. She could talk about how this campaign MUST be about the issues, and that Sen. Obama is as full-blooded an American as any of her supporters.

She could demonstrate real leadership here. She could set the stage for an essential win for the Dems in the fall, and do it simply by telling the truth. Not supporting Obama or his views, but by simply telling the truth to her supporters about Obama.

I will be the first to stand up for her if she stands up for the truth, because this country is bigger than either candidate, and these lies can't go unanswered, and she is in a unique position to do something about it.

I expect that it won't happen, but I hold out hope against all the indications.

65. In order to be a US Senator, you must be a US Citizen.
* at least 30 years old.

* a U.S. citizen for at least nine years at the time of election to the Senate.

* a resident of the state one is elected to represent in the Senate.

These are the only requirements for the office that are specified in Article I, Section 3 of the Constitution.

Case Closed.

69. I'm a Hillary supporter but OMG?!
Honestly!

Birth certificates are a matter of public record. He was born in Honolulu, Hawaii. Do you really think that if he weren't a native born citizen we would only be finding about it at this time? That the Democratic Party would even be allowing him to run as a Democrat?

That is the most ludicrous statement, I have heard in a long battle of ludicrous statements from both sides.

I'm hanging my head in shame that a fellow Hillary supporter would be putting out such nonsensical dis info.

14. I actually think racism has much to do with it.
I've already told the story about my friend in Georgia who told me I shouldn't cast my caucus vote for Obama because he's a Muslim. After I pointed out, with proof, that he was Christian, I was told I shouldn't cast my ballot for him because he won't say the pledge. After disproving that one, it got down to "I just don't think America is ready for a black president".

Bottom line: it was about race.

People rationalize choices they make in order to feel better about those choices without always examining the true motivation of their choice.

That person in the article reminded me so much of that conversation, the first thing that popped into my head is the guy is smart enough to know that "race" is a bad reason, so he proffers cheap rationalizations that he probably knows are untrue, but it's better to be thought ignorant than a bigot.

44.  Point 'em out to me.
Any black person that votes in this country isn't going to make it through a single election before having to decide which white person to vote for.

Statistically, every vote cast in a General Election by a black person in the history of America has been for a white person.

And many black people have voted for white people OVER black people. Ask some of these recent black Republican losers. Of course, identity politics happen with blacks, too--we're human, but it takes more than just black skin. And that becomes more true everyday.

Black people have PROVEN their willingness to vote for white people.

So would it be okay with you if we (along with millions of other people) voted for the black guy that represents our interests, for a change?

Maybe it's just me, but I've been noticing that a lot of black people have signed on to DU fairly recently. Maybe it's for the same reason that I recently signed on despite having read here forever - because this has been one of the most exciting political elections our country has ever had, or maybe there are some other reasons. Whatever it is, I've been LOVING the responses and glad for the extra viewpoints.

60. No, not true. I used to live in the south side district Obama represented.
The state senate district that Obama represented has always had a black representative ever since blacks obtained the majority population there. Some of them have been hopelessly corrupt but kept their jobs even when progressive whites ran against them.

63. Can't let this pass.

I live in Obama's district now. There is a pretty good population of blacks here. Are you surprised that black people can get elected even in black districts?

Care to make a list of districts and check racial makeup against representatives?

And let us assume that locally some black people did vote for some corrupt black (which, of course, makes it worse) politician over a progressive white one. Can you think of ANY reason other than race why maybe the arrival of this progressive white politician wouldn't lead to his landslide victory?

Because I could swear that progressive BLACK politician Barack Obama got his ass kicked when he went against Bobby Rush for U.S. Congressman.

So I'm thinking that sometimes there could maybe, possibly, be other factors.

Let's see how hard they try to talk them into voting for OBAMA once he's the nominee. I doubt they'll try very hard...but if they do, if Bill Clinton goes back there in the GE telling them Obama's a patriotic, "full-blooded American," some of their heads may explode.

43. "I heard that Obama is a Muslim and his wife's an atheist."
I don't know what's sadder -- that this voter still believes that Senator Obama is a Muslim or that Obama's religion, even if it were the religion of Islam, would make one whit of difference as to how he would vote. It's like JFK having to convince people he wouldn't take orders from the Pope.

If I were Senator Clinton, I would issue some kind of statement saying, "For the love of God, my opponent is NOT a Muslim. But even if he were, please don't vote against him for that reason; there are plenty of reasons to support me other than the fact that I am a white Christian."

But that is why I will never be a politician.

Why are we still talking about this shit?

Wouldn't it be better if some infiltrated over at that site and left their own comments?

If someone could just tell those fuckers that if what they are afraid pf by electing a brown man to the office is that Americans will be made unsafe in America and overseas to terrorists attacks; Iran's strength will grow in the ME; that our leadership will simply serve as recruiters for Al Qaeta; that our civil liberties will be taken away from us; that the United States' founders intent of a balance of power will be placed in jeopardy; that our constitution will be ignored; that we will be lied into a war; that our taxpayer's money will be be given away to others in foreign lands; that the price of the oil we buy will rise to astronomical height, that our Country will be bankrupted; and that those who are our friends will become our enemies, and that we will find ourselves indebted the Chinese Communist regime while our jobs are given to them and taken from us......

then tell them to wake the fuck up! It's already happened.....
with an All American good ol' White Boy at the helm.

That's why we desperately deserve Barack Obama; because we have had to live through the reign of George Bush. Barack is the anti-Bush, and that is what we need, at this time.
