Clinton campaign continues to search for "damaging information" on Obama - but still wants VP slot
I never believed she was just "winding things down" and trying to assuage the concerns of her supporters. She doesn't care what she does to Obama or the party. They've been on their "search" for several months and it's not working out -even Scaife hasn't been too helpful. And then to posture for a VP position - I hope that doesn't happen.

http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/05/10/bernstein.clinton/index.html

"However, several important Democrats aligned with Obama predicted that he -- and Michelle Obama -- will vigorously resist any Clinton effort to get on the ticket. Rather, Obama is more likely to try to convince Clinton to either stay in the Senate or accept another position in an Obama administration, should he win the presidency.

"Several Clinton associates say there is still a ray of hope among some in her campaign: that a "catastrophic" revelation about Obama might make it possible for her to win the presidential nomination. But barring that, Hillary and Bill Clinton recognize that her candidacy is being abandoned and rejected by superdelegates whom she once expected to win over and that, even if she were to win the popular vote in combined primary states, she will almost certainly be denied the nomination."

(cut)
Wait for it-

"Yet the Clinton campaign's search for damaging information and its hope that such information exists continues, according to knowledgeable sources. Strategist Harold Ickes, her premier tactical counselor, warned on the eve of the North Carolina and Indiana that Obama could be vulnerable to an "October surprise" by the McCain campaign."

(cut)

"Meanwhile, some of the Clintons' longtime friends and political counselors are intent on trying to talk her down calmly -- something almost like a family intervention -- to get her to concede the Democratic presidential race when the appropriate time comes, in such a way as to heal some of the wounds to the party and to both candidates but allow her to make her best case for the vice presidency.

"Almost no one I have spoken to who knows her well doubts that, as she reconciles to the likelihood that her presidential campaign will fall short, she will probably seek the vice presidential spot. One reason: Contrary to common belief, she doesn't look forward to going back to the Senate, they say. Many Democratic senators believe that she would not have an easy time winning an election for majority leader; the tenor and tactics of her presidential campaign have alienated some of her Democratic colleagues in the Senate."

1. When your campaign strategy comes down to awaiting a "catastrophic"
event to be your opponent's undoing, I think it's time to put the lid on the green bean casserole and stick it in the fridge.

Show's over, Mr. Wolfson. Please pay your last electric bill for your offices, and let's close this file.

politically sad.

I'd be embarrassed to have a sentence like that attributed to me.

Who is running that campaign, anyway?

I'd love to see either Dick Durbin or Chris Dodd have that role.

Barbara Boxer, too, would be a far more vigorous progressive presence.

Agree with you -- she is not wildly popular in the Senate at the moment.

And agree also that the longer she takes these digs at Obama, who is very likely the next president the Senate must work with, the less likely she will become.

As I've posted here before, I have no idea in hell who is advising her, but he or she is likely the most overpaid advisor in the world.

You don't have to talk a sane person down 'calmly'. Everyone else in this race dropped out like reasonable people.

Given all the machinations and the politics of destruction (and the continued hope that it will happen to Obama), and reports of this bunker mentality, it's hard to understand why some Obama supporters don't seem to be overly concerned that she could be on his ticket...

God, keep this man safe in your hands, keep the SS vigilant, and open the eyes of those wishing and hoping for Obama's demise.. So her Campaign IS about Hope, Eh? Hoping that Obama has a catastrophic failure of some kind..

Jesus, I can't believe they'd even let ON that THAT is what they're hoping for! Vulturish, and so totally Devoid of CLASS that its mind-bending..
