How Will The Results Of The Oregon Primary Be Announced ???
Edited on Sun May-11-08 11:10 PM by WillyT
It's mail-in voting, correct?

So I'm wondering if\how the MSM is gonna cover it.

Will it be like announcing the winning lottery numbers?

Anybody know what the protocol for this primary is???

:dunce::shrug::dunce:

Thanks in advance.

:hi:

1. They burn a giant pile of clothing made of hemp. Black smoke = Hillary, white = Obama.

4. I would expect a very early results with the early vote and then the
official vote a couple of days later. Votes have to be postmarked that day.

16. Ballots have to be received by 8pm on the 20th.
I don't remember any "exit polls" in past elections, but that could be because I don't like exit polls and don't pay attention to them. It seems hard to do exit polls when people have their ballot for about 3 weeks before the election, and can mail them or drop them off any time.

I voted yesterday afternoon, and am mailing my ballot today.

Meanwhile, Obama was in the area last week, Bill Clinton was here in April, and I think is here again this week, unless it's HRC herself. I'm hearing ads on the radio and seeing them on tv. They ought to start those ads a little earlier, in advance of ballots arriving in the mail, if they want them to have an impact.

I do know that votes received early will be counted early, with the rest of the votes counted after election day. It doesn't usually take long. Look for results the morning or afternoon of the 21st.

9. The polls close at 8pm PDT on the 20th
Edited on Sun May-11-08 11:55 PM by davidpdx
We should get results just after that. People can deliver their ballot to the county clerks office up until 8pm. Mailed ballots must arrive at the county clerks office by May 20th, so it's best to mail them by the Thursday before.

10. One good thing
about all this attention being paid to the Oregon primary is, the rest of the country will see how easy, secure and sensible the all mail-in voting system is. It is beyond people out here why other states are still in a lather over voting machines, problems at the polling places, etc. Throw all that shit out and just send your ballots in! There is a fully verifiable paper-trail, no one needs I.D., no standing in line, you can vote at your convenience...what's the problem?

Here in WA, we have the option of voting by mail or in person, but most people vote by mail. I really don't know why it isn't all mail like Oregon. I suspect it will be soon.

14. Another good thing as a result of mail-in/drop off voting is...
About a week or so from May 20, it is announced how many people have voted at that point. (Just how many voted, not who they voted for.)It continues until the 20th.

Each year I have lived here (almost eight years), the number of voters has gone up. As said above, the conveniece of voting, comfortably in your own home, the fabulous Paper ballots make a recount possible and not having to stand in lines, all make it attractive to other states.

You want to increase people to vote? Use Oregon's system of voting!

Now if I can only decide who to vote for, for president.

11. they get a head start on organizing ballots
but they accept drive up's to drop off locations for ballots clear until 8pm. so it is very like a typical primary day. in this case, there will be so much advantage for Obama that it will be called fairly early in west coast time zone. anything will be late for east.

13. Same as everywhere else. Ballots must ARRIVE by the 20th.
You can drop them off at designated locations on election day if you don't get your ballot in the mail on time.

Results are announced after 8 p.m. on Election Day. Prior to that we might get some inkling as to how heavy turn-out is been compared with other years but no clue as to which the wind is blowing in terms of vote count.
