THE FLAG PIN
Edited on Mon May-12-08 06:50 AM by sparosnare
I'm listening to them beat this horse (not yet dead) again on MSNBC and I've come to the conclusion Obama should just give in to it and accept the fact there are too many idiots in this country who don't get it. They are offended he doesn't wear it and believe he is unpatriotic or worse because of it. Doesn't matter what he says - he doesn't wear a flag pin!

Never mind he wears the bracelet of a dead soldier every day.

So in the words of Nike, Just Do It. Do a pander; have someone in the audience give it to you, say some ultra-patriotic words, pin that piece of Chinese-made cheap tin to your lapel and be done with it. Make it a non-issue in the GE. Take it away from the media.

2. No he shouldn't. Then they would say it wasn't heartfelt and was only done
to get votes, yada, yada, yada. It's a dumb issue. It's curious McCain doesn't wear one of the stupid pins, but that is apparently okay.

5. True.

McCain doesn't wear one, neither does Hillary. I just don't want to hear about it anymore but we will.

3. And Tweety just keeps on doing a great job
of looking like a total dumbass. Hitler and Churchill? He's damned embarrassing. He ain't the brightest bulb in the pack, is he?

4. Where's Tweety's flag pin? Where's Buchanan's? Hypocrites, all!

6. Mika looked like an idiot banging the flag pin issue
First she mentioned the flag pin issue to Obama's communication director within a bigger question. Obama's communications director said something like Obama wears his patriotism in his heart, yet Mika decided that she needed to bring it up again. It was clear to me that she wasn't happy with the first answer since it didn't have anything juicy for them to play on a loop on their show.

7. Makes me wonder.....
if she made an arbitrary decision to bring it up or was told by higher ups she needed to work the flag pin issue in this morning. I couldn't believe she did that.

11. Higher ups made her do it
You know how Morning Joe always has those quotes that the anchors read? Well, they had a newspaper quote that was fairly long, but did mention flag pins. The blame should go to the producer that put up that quote. I doubt that Mika makes those kind of decisions unilaterally. She does deserve some blame though. It was a lengthy quote that just briefly mentioned flag pins, yet that was her follow-up question.

8. No! I want to see how long they can talk about flag pins
I think it is good for Obama. Because he can just keep responding with a real definition of patriotism. Their definition (wearing a pin, waving a flag, never asking questions) has prevailed for too long, and now we have the opportunity to challenge it.

9. Screw the talking bobble heads and the corporate masters at M$NBC.
Anyone who continues to push lack of wearing a flag pin as a serious issue is a complete and total idiot. As others have noted, none of the candidates still in the race wear one, so why is it only an issue when Obama doesn't sport one? Because M$NBC is hopeful they'll be able to hurt Obama by trying to push nonsense as news. (They didn't learn their lesson with Wright. :eyes:)

With the exception of Countdown, M$NBC is an embarrassment.

And I'd bet the moment Obama dons a flag pin, the hacks at M$NBC would find a new issue to use against Obama.

10. "Never mind he wears the bracelet of a dead soldier every day."
Obama's bracelet a constant reminder of Wisconsin mother, soldier.

Barack Obama still has Wisconsin on his mind.

In the victory speech he gave after winning the North Carolina primary and almost winning the Indiana primary Tuesday, the Democratic presidential candidate celebrated his best night since he swept the Feb. 19 voting in the Badger state.

And he did so by recalling an incident on the campaign trail in Wisconsin and suggesting that he is strengthened in his resolve to win the nomination and the White House by the memory of "the mother in Wisconsin who gave me a bracelet inscribed with the name of the son she lost in Iraq; the families who pray for their loved ones to come home; the heroes on their third and fourth and fifth tour of duty.

"They can't afford four more years of a war that should've never been authorized and never been waged. They can't afford four more years of our veterans returning to broken-down barracks and substandard care. They need us to end a war that isn't making us safer. They need us to treat them with the care and respect they deserve. That's why I'm running for president."

14. The soldier bracelet better patriotism than flag lapel pin
which is probably made in China. I think everybody who asks him about his flag pin should be forced to ask him about the soldier bracelet as well.

17. No one mentions that bracelet. I wish his surrogates would.
When Gibbs was interviewed by Mika he should have mentioned McCains lack of flag pin and that bracelet.

This is the sort of thing that is conveniently overlooked by the media.

16. Obama
could wrap himself up in a giant-assed flag and have a continuous fireworks show going off over his head while the Star Spangled Banner played in the background 24 hours a day and the dipshitbutthole-M$M would ambush and tar and feather him over that piece of shit flag pin.

He would just be called disingenuous - We are living in the rabbit hole where nothing makes any sense.

18. Maybe they need to start talking about the fact that
the Nazi party members wore a swastika lapel pin. Blind nationalism and ultra-patriotism should not be something that we should strive for.
