Poll question: You must CHOOSE! Richardson or Webb for the VP!
And if you'd care to state the rationale behind your choice, please feel free. :)

2. I would choose Richardson
because whomever the President is needs Webb to gain more seniority in the Senate to kick some ass two, three or four years from now. Governor Richardson is more then qualified to be President, the VP slot would be a breeze.

As long as General Clark is Secretary of State everything will be fine.

3. I've heard Richardon speak. Not Richardson.
Obama is great at giving speeches, but he's too precise to give god sound bites in interviews (I know, I'm the same way).

His VP should be somebody older, with the "experience" credential, who speaks well in an impromptu situation.

We are contrary critters in that regard.

18. Yeah, but most democrats have also seen the Indiana Jones movies, and also have a healthy sense of
humor, so when I verbally compare picking the VP to choosing the holy grail, I expect people to get that it's a slightly facetious comment. :P

5. Tough choice
I voted for Webb in this poll to support my superb Senator. However, as much as I would love to see him giving McCain a verbal smackdown on the campaign trail, it would potentially be a loss of a great Senator for the Commonwealth of Virginia. We really don't have a comparable replacement at this time, since Mark Warner is running for the other Senate seat. It is hard to give up on the notion of two Democratic Senators from Virginia (and Tim Kaine (D) serving out his last year as governor). Plus, I think Richardson has his own great advantages.

6. Webb --
Edited on Mon May-12-08 01:41 PM by gateley
I've said -- and been shredded for it -- that STRATEGICALLY we need a white guy. A big issue on the Rep side is immigration - they are afraid of "the Mexicans" coming to take over our country. I've been told that most people don't KNOW Richardson is Hispanic, bur rather a guy with a really good tan from his State. My response to that is the Republicans will make sure everyone learns of his heritage.

Edit to add -- it's not only Dems who will be voting in November, we have to remember the groups we need to win over to our side.

WE would love to see such a ticket -- people like this wouldn't:

13. Webb is a popular choice to be on the list of those to pick. But
He's too conservative, too off-the-cuff, and has been in the Senate even less than Obama. Democrats love the idea of picking off people just as they finally get to the big-time. It's like picking fruit before it reaches its true ripeness. We don't need green bananas for vice president.

19. I see your point
but if bigots aren't scared off by a black man at the top of the ticket, a Hispanic dude for VP won't send them running.

Somehow I doubt that woman would vote for Obama even if Jesus Christ was his VP, ya know?

You couldn't ask for a better narrative to fit into the idea of a coalition that stretches through both blue and red states.

Edited on Mon May-12-08 04:31 PM by Dinger
I like Webb (a lot), but he is needed in the Senate more right now, in my opinion anyway. Also, I'm an "incurable" Clarkie.

17. He'd be my number one recommendation --
not only for his Iraq plan, but for his expertise on foreign affairs. Plus, I think he'd appeal to on-the-fence Republicans, too. And I'd love to see him debate McCain's VP nom.

10. If those are the only 2 choices..
I chose Webb, but I think others are better choices, like Clark, or a few other names mentioned. I love Richardson and think he will make an excellent SoS but we have to be honest that he is going to be fighting an uphill race battle as it is to some degree. I don't think it's wise to put 2 minorities on the ticket. I don't mean that harsh, it's just still a reality in America.

22. I understand that it's a narrow poll
I'm just curious which of these two would be preferable.

I think a lot tends to get lost in the mix with 10 people polls... not unlike the current presidential field, no?

28. Why is nobody worried about Webb's anti-woman writings???
Honestly, I'm sort of puzzled by this.

As a Virginian who is thrilled that Webb is our Senator, I must say, even with Allen's "Maccaca" comment, Webb just barely made it due to the continual coverage of his "woman don't have what it takes to be in combat and shouldn't be there anyways" writings.

Considering the angst Obama now has with single women, do we really want a VP that has this issue hanging over their head? If McCain takes a woman and plays Webb's writings up (as we KNOW he will), its all she wrote...

I just don't see how Obama picks him. He WILL NOT pass the vetting process.

Personally, I agree with the picture you have in your Sig - Sebelius is the best choice, I think!
