No, I'm not going to vote for him, but to the extent that global warming becomes a non-political issue, the more we ALL benefit.

So if McCain loses (which we all hope), I think it will be increasingly difficult for the republicans to prop up their anti-science thing as we go forward. Even if he wins, if Obama makes climate change a major debate point, the Republicans will have to suck it up and take a real position.

I truly do hope Obama makes a major issue out of the climate change issue. If everyone starts to believe this, I don't think McCain's approach will hold up. Lets face it - they come to this issue about 20 years late. But more importantly, if both parties can come to consensus on a reasonable approach going forward, maybe we finally will have mileage standard increases, carbon trapping in coal mills and all the rest.

Its just something the upcoming GE is making me feel good about. :)

3. Exactly. Once they buy into the science, there are all sorts of implications they must deal with...
Their base will NOT be happy. Tough shit for them.

2. McCain worked on CAFE standards with Kerry
back in the 90's. I haven't paid attention to his stand in the last few years. He used to be relatively good on the issue though, so that will either be helpful or another example of the wheels falling off the straight-talk express.

4. Yep. I used to love watching George Bush talk about being a Compassionate Conservative!
Since McCain won't hesitate to nuke Iran, I'm not sure if talking about "Global Warming" means as much as he tries to act as though it does. But maybe that's just me.

7. What it does is kill the rediculous MSM point-counterpoint debate whether this is real...
Right now, every time climate change is raised on any news show, there is this knee-jerk reaction to put some right-wing loonie faux-scientist to try to refute the science. If McCain and Obama both come out strongly on this issue, this should end the equal loonie-time.

I do agree that McCain will not do much with this if he gets elected, but again. The hope is Obama gets elected, and if so, he'll have a larger mandate on this issue due to McCain's lip service.

5. That popping sound you hear is Conservative heads all over the country exploding

He may be making inroads with moderates with this, but he is leaving his base out to dry. And they are the people who donate the money.

Either way, win-win for us.

8. Talk may be cheap, but the first step is killing the right-wing "Global warming is fantasy" debators
If McCain and Obama both say those guys are loons, perhaps the MSM will finally get a clue, and we won't be giving these guys any more air-time whenever this issue is discussed.
