4. I wouldn't bank on that
Virginia would take over a 9 point swing from 2004 to move into the Dem column. That doesn't happen very often.

5. Give it a "Bump" baby...!
Coloroado is in the bag. New Mexico and Virginia are VERY close.

Fortunately, one RePig Senator and one RePig Congress Critter in New Mexico are both under scrutiny at this time.

2. Colorado and New Mexico only have 14 electoral votes combined.
Ohio and Pennsylvania will be the decider states this election. They have a combined 41 electoral votes.

9. PA is NOT a decider state because OBAMA has to win it anyhow
for PA to become a DECIDER State you have to find 21 Electoral Votes somewhere
Ohio is right on the money, but only if he holds all of Kerrys states.

13. That is what I meant.
Without Pennsylvania, there is no conceivable way for Obama to put together a state coalition necessary to get 270 votes.

Which is why it's a decider state.

Ohio is also one. I see very little possibilities to put together 270 electoral votes without Ohio.

18. Not necessarily, although they are welcome to join in
If Bob Barr does anything, we could get Georgia...and Alaska is not out of the question..lots of repub scandals there and Ron Paul and Huckabee BOTH beat McCain there..

Landrieu is not doing as badly, so I gave him LA..

notice the states i did NOT give him

19. PA will break Dem... no matter the Dem nominee
PA is sick of getting thrown under the bus. Their manufacturing base is dead (all thanks to the RePuke economic plan laid out before them"). PA I would bet goes DEM by 10% in November.

Ohio... I would bet they break Dem as well. They have been hit very hard by the downturn in the economy. But, they have a lot of Fundies around Cleveland. This one will be close, but would bet they vote their best intrest this time round.

3. Add the Kerry states plus Iowa and we have a winner
Obama needs to win Iowa and New Mexico, which Gore won but Kerry narrowly lost, plus either Colorado, Virginia, or Nevada. If he can do that he can win without Ohio or Florida. Not that I am ruling out Ohio.

10. Good job, on the OHIO thing
It will be a mix EITHER OHIO (and hold the Kerry states)
Or a combo of IOWA, COLORADO (and one other 5 seater)

8. actually the decider States are in 2 groups
One group is OHIO 20 alone
AND
the other group is COlorado 9 Iowa 7 New Mexico 5 Nevada 5 and New Hampshire 4 (simply because its McCain)

OBAMA can win with JUST Ohio or 18 Electoral votes from the second group. Pretty simple.

Its the easiest path to an ELectoral win. I think his popularity (favorables) will make MCCain
play defense though which will help us. All the talk of Virginia and Missouri is fine, but they will win those
if they have a popular vote margin of 5 or 6 pct%. Warner being on the Ballot gives them a great boost ALONE
in VA.

12. We need New Hampshire with Ohio
Gore lost New Hampshire but Kerry won it...I think we will win it this time, though recent polls have not looked so good.

If we win the Kerry states minus New Hampshire and pick up Ohio, we lose 272-268. If we rely on just Ohio as a pickup we need to hold ALL of the Kerry states, no exceptions.

16. I have a feeling
Ohio will swing Democratic this time round.

That State has suffered far more than most under RepubliKKKan rule.

Time to change the sheets!

11. This makes several excellent points
1)States change their demographics over the years, and younger college age voters replace racist died-in-the-wool Republicans that die off.

2) New Hampshire,Iowa, Colorado, Virginia, North Carolina, New Mexico, South Dakota, Idaho, Alaska, and even Ohio are NOT the same as they were in 2004! They are CERTAINLY NOT better off since 2000

3) Obama has to pick a VP from a changing or purple state to make a difference in that state, VA, GA, OH, NE?
