28,627 in local GOP switched parties
BY HOWARD WILKINSON | HWILKINSON@ENQUIRE.COM

COLUMBUS - Newly released numbers show that more than 28,000 of the Democrats in Southwest Ohio who voted in the March 4 presidential primary previously voted Republican - a number higher than the state average.

The numbers, obtained from the Ohio secretary of state by the Associated Press, show that statewide, about 8 percent of the Democrats who voted in the presidential primary previously cast Republican ballots.

In the four Southwest Ohio counties - Hamilton, Butler, Warren and Clermont - the percentage was even higher - 10.6 percent.

Leaders of both the Republican and Democratic parties in Southwest Ohio agree that many of those crossover voters were Republicans who wanted to keep the battle between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama going, knowing that their own party had already chosen its nominee, John McCain.

"Those people are coming back to the Republican Party this fall," said Scott Owens, executive director of the Butler County Republican Party. "A lot of them did it just to keep Hillary in the race. But they'll be back. We're not losing any sleep over it."

1. What s joke the GOP is. The right to vote is sacred won through
wars and civil rights conflicts and these people just spit on it.Voting is now a canard just like the GOP health care plans. GOP politics just cheapens the country one sleazy way at a time. Supposedly conservative means to promote traditional values-HA!

4. What They Are Afraid Of: About 40% of Those Republicans WON'T BE BACK TO VOTE FOR MCCAIN
That's the real story here people. About 10,000 Republicans from a GOP DISTRICT went and Voted for Barack Obama.

5. I hope the SDs are paying attention to this
This is part of their job, to undo damage caused by unethical republicans (I know that's a bit redundant saying unethical and republican)

7. I call bullshit
Hillary has always had a lot of support from Republican WOMEN who would have voted for her in the primary and the general election.

The Republican party in Ohio is in tatters.

This is the first presidential election since Democrats took every single statewide office in 2006 and the way to change your party affiliation is to vote in a presidential primary (you can do an affidavit between elections, but it won't show up on the computer records until you actually vote in a primary).

A good portion of these voters are no longer Republicans.

8. It is my humble opinion that if one switches affiliations for the primary
they should have to keep that affiliation throughout that entire election cycle.

Dirty tricks.
