(I think this was taken from a speech she gave on Sunday)

"I want to give you a gas tax holiday this summer and I want the oil companies to pay the gas tax out of their record profits," Clinton told West Virginia voters Monday. "Now you may have heard something about this on the news because it's controversial. My opponent, Sen. Obama, says, 'Oh no, that's just a gimmick, that's not going to help people.'

"Well, I gotta tell you, according to the Department of Energy, it will help you $70 this summer, and if you're a truck driver or you commute long distances, it'll help you even more"

That's just WRONG. She KNOWS that the 'windfall tax' she proposes to pay for this gas tax holiday will never be okayed, and that the overwhelming majority of economists say it would do more harm than good.

Why is she giving these people false hope? That's cruel.

2. I thought I read
where she said she realized she couldn't get it passed by the summer, or something like that, essentially dropping the topic.

3. When state income is 23% less than national ... $30 means something.
She just had to go the 48th poorest state for the panderizing BS to work.

5. I'm wondering when she's going to do more than talk about it.
Summer is just around the corner. If she wants to give people a gas tax holiday this summer, when will she do more than talk about it?

6. I think she wrote a proposal (or whatever they're called) a week or so ago.
She KNOWS it can't/won't go forward, which is why she's probably not "back there" fighting for it.

7. This summer is just days away.
She's a strong-willed woman, but I tend to think this gas tax holiday might not be possible, even if she wishes to make it so. Good idea or bad idea, I think it's simply an impossible idea. But if she can make it happen, I do believe she should be president.

10. but apparently in WV, a majority of her base
actually thinks that she could singlehandedly :

propose a bill (in her spare time ..or by phone maybe)
get it through the senate
get it through the house
get it through committee
force Bush to sign it
prevent oil companies from raising prices to cover the tax percentage

all in the next week & a half

Talk about a fairy tale
