So the best way to object to bigotry in West Virginia...
is to make hateful, bigoted comments about the whole state?

Do you guys even think for a minute about what you're doing?

I would hope the mods would enforce the rules against regional attacks - I suspect we're going to see a LOT of bigoted hate against West Virginia today, and it would be nice if it were shut down early.

7. Why not address the topic?
Calling the whole state a bunch of "toothless cousin-fuckers" is bigotry, wouldn't you agree? Does it make sense to object to bigotry by making bigoted statements about the whole state?

I haven't called all Obama supporters ignorant, hate-filled lying douches. Just the ones that act that way here.

17. You are doing the EXACT same thing
You can find true bigots and racists in WV and you can find Obama supporter that will go over the top in their descriptions of WV. So how does your comments suggesting they represent Obama supporters any different than saying that the racists represent WV?

Beyond that if racism doesn't have a strong hold in WV, why did Hillary run there on the I am white position? In Ohio it was anti nafta, in PA it was faux blue collar, in Idiana it was the populist position. Then she kicks off her WV campaign with comments about how she (being a white person) has greater appeal to whites. What was that all about? Seems to me even Hillary knows that racism exists in better than average numbers in WV.

I've learned a lot of disturbing things about the people who call themselves liberal Democrats in the seven years I've been reading DU. The bigots can't all be trolls.

Edited on Tue May-13-08 05:25 PM by Kittycat
of just plain on bigotry about the AAs that support Obama. DU even has it's own Resident Racist/Clinton supporter that leads the daily charge in posting crap to diminish the AA vote. Without ever reading a single post discussing why the vote is tilted that way, or refusing to recognize any of the reasons.

With that said, I think there are plenty of individual racists in WV & KY (I have extended family from KY that fit that bill quite nicely, along with all their friends) - but I disagree that the entire state is that way. But when people hold up racially charged signs, and don't even bother using spell check... Yeah, I'm going to laugh at it.

The logistics involved in moving to WV are nowhere near as complicated as going to Cuba. You could at least vacation there to support the local economy of the state you hold so dear. Or is your fondness of them only lipservice?

34. I admit, I am intolertant of bigots, but....
I also don't think any one state or demograpic group has the cornery on bigotry.

In general, I don't like to make generalizations. Having heard lots of cruel and inaccurate generalizations about Arkansas, I especially don't like generalizations about an entire freaking state.

I think some Obama supporters feel threatened by WVa's refusal to immediately jump on the OBama bus, and so are willing to throw them under the bus. This is so "Hillary" that it makes my head spin. She has continually isulted OBama supporters by telling them they, their state, and their entire demographic are "unimportant" just because they didn't vote for her.

Don't like it when Hillary does it, and don't like it when Obama supporters do it. I'm an Obama supporter and I think it reflects badly on all Obama supporters AND Obama who is certainly not a divisive, "vote for me or you're worthless" candidate like Hillary is.

It hasn't for a while now. Lucky for me, the "def con" levels DU has experienced have let me see that you are a stand up guy. I might not be here much longer in the face of the very attacks against those of us in southern and Midwestern regions that you are talking about in your OP. I wanted to say my piece to you before I get my TS, because it is becoming quite clear to me that those of us from the regions in question are NOT welcomed here on DU by the ones who run the place. If it wasn't for individuals like you standing up to the bigotry, I would feel a lot worse than I do right now.

Thank you for standing up for those of us who don't really feel we have a right to stand up for ourselves in the Democratic Party, yet do not ever want to be in the Republican Party either.

I thought that the only racism that still existed today was "reverse racism" when the black people play the race card against the working class-or something like that.

What is best way to object to bigotry in WV? LOL- I'm still in shock that we are admitting that there IS bigotry to object to in WV or any where else.

;)

LOL! But all kidding aside- I think you and I can agree that targeting an entire state is counter productive.
