Why is it that almost none of the Democrats I have ever met look down on our rural counterparts?

And yet, if posts on DU are to believed, there's a ton of Dems who do regard West Virginian/Kentucky/rural/mountain/southern/etc. residents as something lower than dirt.

Conclusion: These people posting such derogatory things on DU are not Democrats, but trolls. Their "missions", apparently, are to pi$$ off people here, and also to provide Rush Limblow with discrediting slander against Democrats.

That, or the thousand+ Democrats I've met at gatherings and rallies and campaign HQs over the years have not actually been Democrats...though, somehow, I think the first conclusion is the more likely one.

4. WV has revelled in it's racism forever. Their reward is condemnation by the nation.

8. Actually - if you look at Obama's wins - he's won a solid majority of
the small states. WV & KY are, well - different to put it nicely. And in her run up to those states, she's exploited that difference, and given it a platform toward legitimacy. Seen at her own rallies with her supporters holding up ignorant signs. Instead of educating her voters - she instead exploited them. So here we are.

9. I don't believe in patronizing anybody.

Therefore if a large contingent of white, rural, less-educated West Virginians vote overwhelmingly for Hillary Clinton because she's white, and she claims them as "her" demographic - well, I'm not going to go all sappy about how quaint and salt-of-the-earth West Virginians are. And my mother's from Huntington, West Virginia and a proud graduate of Marshall, etc.

10. There are rural people in most regions of the country
Are there DUers who think differently about rural people in Wisconsin or Maine than they do about those in West Virginia or Kentucky? I wonder if it's more of north-south thing rather than an urban-rural thing.

12. There may be rednecks but there are also "Bubbas"
and there are differences between them -
so say Steve Jarding and Dave "Mudcat" Saunders, authors of Foxes In The Henhouse

http://books.google.com/books?id=m2Zz9Iu2cFoC&pg=PA80&lpg=PA80&dq=bubbas+rednecks+jarding+and+saunders&source=web&ots=I49AKwaQwV&sig=yyGXI7y7ISPe34uZv945ogk71a8&hl=en#PPA81,M1

This book is highly recommended if you want to know about what makes rural Americans in the East and the South tick.

Another tome I recommend highly is Deer Hunting With Jesus by Joe Bageant, called by some of us here at DU the "poor white man's Hunter Thompson"
