New Jersey, Who Lost So Many To Terror, Give Double Digit Lead To Kerry
WASHINGTON - John Kerry has reclaimed a healthy lead in Democratic-leaning New Jersey, where he holds a double-digit lead over President Bush, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released Thursday.

The poll, taken after the Democratic National Convention, found Kerry with the backing of 49 percent, Bush with 36 percent and independent Ralph Nader with 6 percent.

In a late June Quinnipiac poll, Kerry had 46 percent, Bush 40 percent and Nader 7 percent.

Kerry's popularity increased after the convention, with 38 percent now viewing him favorably and 25 percent unfavorably. Bush was viewed favorably by 34 percent and unfavorably by 43 percent.

The favorability ratings are the ones to watch these days. While the poll numbers move very little, Kerry's numbers are swinging up and Bush's are going down.

Kerry, clearly not a woman - only guys do this stupid jumping move (yes, including me).

1. I do
a lot of work in New Jersey and I don't think that state was ever in doubt. People there just needed to get to know Kerry and they were going to break his way. Bush was already very unpopular there.

3. NJ
has really been trending Democrat in recent elections. The social issues really help the Demcorats there. Many of those rich people have done very well under Democrats.

Some of those earlier polls were odd.

6. I'm a New Jersey volunteer for Kerry...
...and we've been told that we won't be doing too much actually inside New Jersey. Instead, they'll be asking us to volunteer as much as possible in Pennsylvania, which of course is a real battlefield state. I never thought, despite those earlier polls, that Bush would ever have a chance in New Jersey; glad to see Kerry begin to pull away.
