He said the words! He said "Universal Healthcare"
in the Missouri Town Hall meeting just covered by CNN and MSNBC.

Healthcare for all Americans "at least as good as what he and Claire have"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Making Social Security free from taxes.

Renewable energies

Enforcing trade agreements

taking away "the blank check to wage war"

Now THAT is what I'm talking about

4. Rep Conyers has a good UHC bill, single payer - its up to congress to write and pass the bill
Obama and Clinton are bringing up the subject, we need a president who
will support UHC.

But we need a democratic majority in congress and senate, who won't buckle
under to the insurance companies.

Keep in mind that the big banks have bought into the insurance business,
so it gets even harder to pry their claws off of this.

17. Never mind the president--it's up to US to get 676 through Congress
Either candidate would then sign it in a New York minute.

5. He's been saying that for a long time, though
Edited on Tue May-13-08 05:50 PM by nxylas
The bone of contention that some people have is that his healthcare plan isn't really universal. I just live in hope that he is merely being cautious in order to get elected, and that if he were to get a second term, his healthcare plan would evolve into a full-blown single-payer one. After all, he has said in the past that he supports single-payer, the question is how sincere he was in backtracking from that position, or whether he is just trying to avoid frightening the horses. I support Obama, but healthcare is one area where his position falls short of what I would wish for.

11. It seems to me he's moved from his original plan - just what I hoped
I think we'll have to wait for the details, but what he said sounded better than the original.

Plus, he said he would work to have it fully enacted in his first term.

9. That is basically it
Kucinich had the best one, frankly.

Clinton's and Obamas are about identical with the only exception of Clinton's being mandatory.

12. Some people will fall for anything
Obama's "plan" isn't even close to universal healthcare- and doesn't address the major problems Americans have:

Access to primary care and billions wasted on administrative costs that not only don't "produce" healthcare, but in many cases actually works to deny people care.

in the Democratic Party - we have plenty to go around!

Let's wait and see what happens! He says he is going to get ideas and have an open forum - sure as H better then what HRC was "not" able to do in the 1990's!

16. Just doing the analysis
Obama's "plan" is basically a farce. So is Hillary's for that matter- though it comes closer to addressing risk pool and adverse selection issues.

18. Makes not the slightest bit of difference
It's up to US to get 676 passed. If we can do that, any Dem president would sign it.
