Obama paid respect to gun culture hours before "bitter" remark
In a bit of campaign-trail irony, the Huffington Post reports that Barack Obama paid respect to rural gun culture at San Francisco-area fundraiser just hours before he made his now-infamous remark that "bitter" small-town Americans "cling to" guns or religion.

The web site said the Obama remark was shared by a source it identified as an attendee at a private fundraiser for Obama in Silicon Valley.

"We need sensible gun laws," Obama told the contributors, according to the Huffington Post. "I just got back from Montana where just about everyone has guns. In that culture, fathers and sons bond over hunting. You can't take that away from rural America. But the inner city is different, and we should tighten the laws on gun purchases and close the loopholes in gun show sales to unscrupulous buyers. The gun control people and the right to bear arms people are talking past each other about disconnected topics."

1. It's too bad that no one will care about this.

2. I would love to hear...

what politicians mean when they say "we should tighten the laws on gun purchases". What are the specifics?

This comment isn't directed at Obama alone. Plenty of pols do it in both parties.

3. He also stated that the 2nd amend is an INDIVIDUAL right, not just militia right.

5. I'm sorry, but I don't trust Obama on gun rights

I think Obama stance on the 2nd Amendment is election year poltics. I think Obama's prior stance on gun control is much stricter than he is saying now and he will sign off on stricter gun laws.

I think that Obama saw how Kerry had trouble with gun owners in some swing states and Obama is determined not to let that happen to him.
