2. Another falsehood. They didn't vote uncommitted, they voted for John Edwards.
Hillary Clinton 81,673 64%
Barack Obama 37,417 29%
John Edwards 9,035 7%

3. Who mentioned "uncommitted" other than you?
You read something into the OP that isn't there...

5. The op said they refused to vote for a woman or black man. The truth is that they voted FOR Edwards
A "refusal", in my opinion, would show a large uncommitted percentage, but that is not what we see here. Instead, John Edwards shows he has a large base of support in rural America.

4. But they like Jews
Your comment is ignorant. Look at the 2004 results. 70% Kerry, 13% Edwards, 6% Lieberman, 4% Dean

13. The point is think....
Edwards getting 7% doesn't mean that 7% of West Virginian's are racist sexists. Edwards got 13% 4 years ago at the same point in the race. Kerry had it locked up and he still only got 70%.

6. No, they voted for Edwards
Edited on Tue May-13-08 08:59 PM by Marie26
The only real populist in the race & one who devoted his campaign to the plight of the poor & working class. That vote shows how much support he still has & how loyal his supporters are. Especially in WV, where poverty rates are so high, people wanted to vote for the candidate who seemed to care the most about their issues. I hate how anyone who doesn't vote for Obama/Clinton is automatically a racist or sexist.

You don't have to slam Edwards now, really. I'm saying that he ran as a populist in this campaign, and that message resonated with many poor and working class voters.

WV, not because I wouldn't vote for a women or a black man but because I think he would be a better President than either of the MSM candidates.

16. I'm surprised this wasn't sarcasm. They're voting for EDWARDS.
I wasn't a big fan of Edwards when he was running. I thought, basically, his H-issues made him unelectable. But he DID run on an economically-liberal, pro-middle-and-working-class message. Quite strongly, in fact.

Hillary, whom I support, has been able to become a working class hero simply because Obama is so hopeless with that demographic - the real base of the Democratic Party, or at least its soul -- the common man, the little guy.

For 7% of W.Va tonight, Hillary's populism isn't enough. They're voting for Edwards.

Amazing how Obama supporters' ugly classism is really only rearing its head now, once your guy became - at least - the pre-putative nominee.

26. I voted for Howard Dean in Illinois in 2004.

Long after he dropped out. But he's the one I wanted, so I voted for him.

Yet I still voted for Kerry in the general election. So this doesn't mean much. Just folks voting for the candidate they want, not the one they can have.

As the saying goes, vote your heart in the primary and your head in the general.
