Childers did not win Lott's seat
He won Wicker's seat, which before hand had been held by Jamie Whitten. Jamie Whitten stepped down in 1995. He began his service a few months before Pearl Harbor got hit.

Lott represented the coast, winning in 1972 only because of Nixon's coattails and because he had been a staffer for the retiring Democratic congressman. When he ran for U.S. Senate, Larkin Smith replaced him in a narrow election. Smith died that year and Gene Taylor replaced him.

Lott's old seat is now held by Gene Taylor.

I just wanted to clear this up because I am tired of hearing this outright unfactual statement in the media.

1. That's where the misinfo came from
Thanks for clearing that up.

I was wondering why so many people here kept saying Childress took Lott's seat.

I thought people were confused about the House seat and Senate seat.

Color me SHOCKED...The media started the misinfo campaign
