7. My late uncle would be proud - he was Dean of Academic Services at MCC before he retired.
As a New Deal Democrat, I think he'd be very supportive of Obama, even if he'd express frustration with Obama's less-than-liberal positions.

25. He was a VERY complex (often aggravating) man ... with demons.
A sexist and often emotionally abusive, he was also a long-time member and vocal supporter of various civi rights organizations, including the ACLU, NAACP, NOW, and NARAL. He was the very first from his family to spend even a single day in a college classroom, obtaining his Masters in Political Science on the WW2 GI Bill in four years at Michigan State, magna cum laude. He was a poltical "insider" - and dealt first-hand with folks ranging from Jimmy Hoffa to RFK during his career. Like I say... a VERY complex man.

I think he should go to KY and OR however. I like that he is spending the day in Michigan today because it reinforce the fact that he will be the nominee.

Then it turned out he was driving the largest (I want to say Buick?) sedan with a Hemi!

He since has bought, I understand, a Ford Escape hybrid.

48. Macomb County is EXACTLY where Obama should campaign a lot.
It's part of the 'ethos' of the "Reagan Democrat" to admire, even grudgingly, a candidate that comes and faces them directly. Above all else, they're angered by politicians that dismiss them. While DUers love to engage in mud fights about "elitism," we tend to ignore or rationalize the chauvinism of various demographics. The "blue collar" voter of Michigan is chauvinistic - emphasizing the social merit in getting one's hands dirty.

55. No, many people serve their country in many important and different ways.
Personally, I want to see that all vets have their medical and emotional needs fully met. However, I think that there are many people in this country that put their lives, and emotional health, in jeopardy on a daily basis. They should be held in high regard, as well!

I think the mental illness issues that our vets suffer is a silent disease that our military does little to address. It pains me to know that they, our troops, are systematically put back into the very environment that caused it.

However... no taxes for NatBurner!
