Obama: will guarantee that the Michigan delegation is seated at the convention

http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalradar/2008/05/obama-says-chil.html

<snip>

Obama reminded the crowd that his poor showing in the Michigan primary, which Clinton won, was because he was following the rules.

“Because of the whole hoopla around when Michigan held its primary, my name was not on the ballot," Obama said. "We did not do campaigning here and I just want to remind everybody that wasn't my choosing.”

Obama said that if he is the nominee he will guarantee that the Michigan delegation is seated at the convention.

The Senator unveiled a manufacturing agenda aiming to fuel innovation and boost the economy. Obama, wearing a flag pin, spent his morning meeting with workers and touring the Chrysler Stamping Plant in Sterling Heights, an attempt to woo key working class voters.

1. Does that mean all the manufactured faux outrage about "them" breaking the rules will stop now?

5. It's the conditional "if (Obama) is the nominee" that bothers me.
Without getting into the debate about which candidate I'd personally prefer, my contention is that either the Michigan delegation will be seated or they won't on principle alone, not whether or not Obama is nominated.

Michigan flagrantly chose to ignore the the Party's choice of when primaries could be held and its independence created a conflict between the democratic candidates and whether or not to seat the delegates that were created under undemocratic circumstances.

Just decide on the issue, not a conditional prospect.

6. It most certainly WAS his choosing
Edited on Wed May-14-08 05:12 PM by bain_sidhe
I don't know what he's trying to pull, but Obama, Edwards, Biden and Richardson were on the ballot automatically (as were the other contenders). They all had to take action to get their names off the ballot.

That was their choice. It was not required by either the DNC or the "four state pledge." I understand their reasoning for dropping out, but to say "it wasn't my choosing" is trying to re-write history.

Note: For all those readying your "anti-Clinton-supporter" sniper rifles, I think Obama is the best choice for our nominee, I will enthusiastically vote for him. But that doesn't change the facts. I was royally pissed when those four took their names off the ballot. Over time, I came to blame the DNC more than the individual candidates, but still, it irks me to see him trying to revise the facts that I was exceptionally aware of at the time.

**edited for clarity**

7. He can't be the nominee until the delegates are seated.
