I thought so at first, but upon further research learned that it was owned by Vivendi, which merged with NBC Universal, but Houghton Mifflin was bought by a consortium: Thomas H. Lee, Bain Capital, and The Blackstone Group.

You could try some of these Houghton Mifflin contacts:

That would be copyright. In other words ensuring one's rights to his/her own work. Some people think that because books, articles, etc., are copyrighted, that it must have to do with writing. Not so. Never copywrite or copywritten.

Of the three companies in the consortium that owns Houghton Mifflin, only Thomas H. Lee lists their holding on their web site, and Houghton Mifflin is not even listed.

Here's what the Houghton Mifflin web site says:

"In 2001, Houghton Mifflin was acquired by Vivendi Universal, an international media group. Shortly thereafter, the Company was sold to Thomas H. Lee, Bain Capital, and The Blackstone Group, becoming a privately held company again in 2002."

So they are privately held? Does that mean they're still owned by Lee, Bain, & Blackstone or that the consortium bought HM, maybe made some changes, and sold it?

In any case, the Houghton Mifflin contacts are probably the best place to keep the pressure on if you want to write.
