So why did Edwards do it ?
I don't think the Vice Presidency was his objective. Although he may accept it. Nomination -- that is.

I would guess that he sees what I do.

A Clinton win this year would move the White House out of his reach for 8 years. He holds no national office and he would be totally forgotten by 2016. An Obama loss -- whether he accepts VP or not -- would put him in very good position to get the nomination in 2012. He would only be 58. He could demand help to the Obama supporters for putting their man "over the top" this year.

It would seem his interests and the Parties interests are somewhat different this year.

9. All of the party leaders will endorse the nominee
And that would be Obama. It will be the same reason Gore, Carter, and eventually the Clintons endorse him.

10. I think he did it because he's concerned about the harm that is going
on with the split in the party. He's hoping to provide some leadership to those who had supported him. He has expressed concern about the negative tone the campaign had taken, and when Clinton made her "hard-working whites" comment, he was not happy about that one. I think he sees where this is heading and he's working to bring it to an end as soon as this can happen. It's a message and shot across the bow to Clinton that it's time to stop moving the goal posts and just run out the clock instead.

Plus the fact that an endorsement NOW is more powerful than an endorsement after the nomination is decided.

12. Awww! Did the big bad Edwards hurt your feelings?
I get sick of the inane posts about how Hillary can win the white house and Obama can't. It's not only childish, it ignores the insanely high negatives Hillary has within the Democratic party and the populace as a whole.

People don't want Hillary! Get that through your head!

Now you can continue your tantrum. :eyes:

20. While I don't know, I would submit that Edwards sees the numbers
the momentum, donors, new voters and sees a new direction for the Democratic Party. I was an Edwards supporter and am very please with his endorsement.

And it worked beautifully.

6pm news cycle the day after a 41 point victory -- and no one is talking about WV.

26. I think he realized this race is all but over, and it was about his last chance
to make a difference with his endorsement. I'm sure he will ask all 19 of his delegates to support Obama,I'm reasonably sure they will, and that will help end this contest quicker.

On MSNBC I've heard Edwards has 19 delegates, and some other stations said he had 18. I have no idea who's right. Either way, it's a nice chunk for Barack.

27. Obama signed onto Edwards Poverty plan
Also Edwards wants to start the process of uniting the party. Note that Elizabeth most likely supports Hillary because of the Healthcare deal, but Edwards decided the time was right for him to come out and stand with Obama. And as a former Edwards supported I'm thrilled.
