Question: When did DU begin inserting advertisements in OPs ?
For the 1st time, in the 100+ OPs I've done, there is an advertisement inserted into my OP. I initially started a thread on 5/13/08. The link is:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x5933455

Is this a new policy at DU?

Or just a mistake?

If anyone knows the answer to this question, please fill me in.

1. Where's the ad?
I just clicked on your link, and I saw no ads in your OP...

But I have them turned off...

Can you describe what the ads look like?

6. It wasn't there when I returned, either
Thanks for checking.

I just re-checked itself, and it was gone.

Very strange. Maybe it was some kind of temporary mistake. Or maybe the problem was already rectified.

2. You talking about the Grovelbot?
That's nothing new - happens every time Skinner & co. throw a fund drive.

7. Is the Grovelbot actually inserted into the OP?
It was right under the 1st line of my OP.

8. No, that doesn't sound like the Grovelbot.
The Grovelbot is like a special user at DU, that throws posts randomly into the middle of threads asking for money.

I know that when you log out of DU and read it without being logged in, more ads will be put in the threads, including one banner ad inserted right below the OP. When you log in, that ad goes away.

Not sure what you were looking at. Post a screenshot, perhaps?

From the looks of it.

4. GrovelBot is our friend, we're always happy to see him and happier
when he goes away. The easiest way to do that is to drop a few bucks in his cup.
